Update: Kelly buzz..."The Thread" Hall of Fame bound.

All I can say is that SS better pull Bobby Stoops out of his ass if he does not land Chip Kelly. He will NEVER be able to convince a significant portion of Gator Nation that he did not screw it up. Sad but true...

 

Your last couple of posts don’t do a lot to inspire confidence. Starting to feel like you’re hedging your bets a little...

Yep. Was it just late yesterday that Buddy Martin went on Finebaum and said we were 98% there? And this morning reports UCLA was moving on?

I think things were starting to line up with everyone starting to report confidence that Kelly was coming to UF. They needed to throw the dogs off the trail. Landry has even admitted planting stories like this before.

My guess is maybe they go to him and work out a deal where he helps them create the doubt now and gets something in return, like breaking the signing when it's totally official.

 

I think this commenter has said that they have a “pro” source - not necessarily affiliated with the school(s). Would be an interesting additional report.

 

As far as I'm concerned if he doesn't land Chip he should be fired. His entire job is to manage the process, and if it flops he's put a black eye on the school, one somebody will need to work very hard on healing.

Wasn’t suggesting that. You have gone to him to fact check seemingly positive news, didn’t know if you had done the same with the latest round of reporting.

 

I believe it is the case. However, seeing a guy who is legitimately plugged in reporting the UCLA connection does make me nervous. I fully recognize that it is explainable, but that doesn't change my feelings on it.

I'm not a negative person. I still believe we're going to get Chip, but this is the first time I've had doubts since people started reporting that we were going to land him a couple weeks ago.

Trust me, if Kelly wants to coach here and be the head of UF's program, and is open to reasonable negotiations and terms he will be our next coach. He has other options.

 

You can be sure it's not silent behind the scenes. I gotta think Stricklin is painfully aware of the white hot level of Gator Nation expectations swirling around Chip Kelly. I have never seen anything like this. Fair or not if Stricklin doesn't land Chip Kelly he better have one hell of an ace in the hole ready to replace him.
