good point.... Kelly just doesn't get me excited though and he doesn't strike me as a South Eastern kind of guy... maybe I'm jaded or just flat-out skeptical but he's just not doing it for me..
He's past the NCAA sanction potential, but the latter UAA/control issues would make this the most surprising. Still looks like a 1/10 shot here, but our rivals' reaction would be priceless.
I'd still go Frost myself, but it would be a fun ride either way. Good to at least be talking about the two 'buzz' hires on the radar. Had my fill of Plan B guys over the last 6 years.
That would be fine, but so far all I'm seeing is echo chamber feedback sourced indirectly from the fringe. Hope it progresses. Shouldn't take long to get more verification if it's moving that direction.
He can be a North Korea guy for all I care as long as he wins. If a guy with a 46-7 record in college football and two BCS bowl wins in four years doesn't do it for you, I guess we can put a call into Bill Belichick?
No insider info but I think Chip Kelly seems more likely than Frost given the whole Nebraska scenario. Or Kelly leak could be nothing more than smoke screen for Frost. One thing is certain, if this were to happen, it would be the talk of college football for the rest of the year. I'd be thrilled with either hire.
In poker, you got a pat hand, you don't show your cards til you have to. And believe me, brother, this is some high stakes poker.
Kelly would not have to build too much. He needs to coach a lot! I would be beside myself if he were hired.
very true... I just don't believe Stoops is out of this whole deal yet.... been eerily quiet about him...
have you not seen the dumpster fire that is our offensive line??? I don't believe there's any helping the quarterbacks we currently have either..
He doesn't need to rebuild a program. We're not Iowa State (before Campbell). We pull a top 20 recruiting class just about every year. We went 19-8 with a mediocre HC in 2015 and 2016. We're not lacking talent. Further, at Oregon, Helfrich took what Kelly built and dominated with it. I'm not sure how we could get a better fit than a proven winner who is also the biggest name on the market. Kelly is a slam dunk. He's the best guy we could hire outside of Bob Stoops. Truth is that Chip Kelly took a program that was basically Texas Tech under Mike Leach when Mike Bellotti was the HC (and Bellotti was a good HC) and turned it into Florida under Urban Meyer (difference being that Oregon lost its two NC games) until Mark Helfrich tore it all down following Chip's departure. This is an Alabama landing Saban level move here. I don't want to get too excited because we might be getting duped (like Tennessee fans are with Gruden every time they have an opening). However, if Chip is the guy, it's a game-changer. We'll be in the NC conversation by 2020 at the latest.(and I think it's possible it happens in 2018 or 2019)
