Update: Kelly buzz..."The Thread" Hall of Fame bound.

I just moved so I've been stopping at different places to see who has the best selection. The place I picked up the Stone didn't have much as far as dark beers go but I'm certainly glad I picked this one up. Recommend for sure.

Any suggestion it is "only" the vetting of assistants at this point is not only inaccurate; it taxes the credulity of the credulous.

Of course there is a buyout issue.

One of the first issues was without question the liquidated damages issue in the buyout should Florida have to fire Kelly under the cloud of an NCAA investigation. Florida wanted to make sure (and this is an area where I'm told the largely absent Foley did make a suggestion) that it protected itself. It's about to make the most significant coaching investment in program history to fix the program. But it is doing it with a coach that doesn't come without risk. So yeah- there's stuff to work out on that front and that has also caused a delay.

Keep in mind Scott Stricklin is the first outsider to run athletics at Florida in nearly half a century. Even Bill Arnsparger had ties to the state and the university. Stricklin is also known for being a risk-taker. Both of these things are good, in a way-- Florida athletics had reputably grown to insular, and lost some ability to be reflexive. But there's also value to the idea of "a championship experience with integrity." Vetting coaches Kelly wants is part of it. But so is making sure the damages figure and contractual protection is too.

Our commitment level is there, from Fuchs on down, and that is why this is such an important negotiation from a UF standpoint. We are saying yes to Kelly’s program, but in return must thoroughly vet the people he desires to bring in. Both sides want this to get done.
