Eh. We all love SOS. But, once you hire a leader, let him lead. Give him the reins... all of em. Let the Generals on the field of battle wage the war.
I always thought $$$ and something else makes the world go round & round, and not necessarily in that order..
Exactly. I doubt Chip anticipates a situation where SOS will feel the need to get involved. And if such a situation arose he'd be looking for fresh ideas, not hunkering down and rejecting them. Again, this is a guy who has literally traveled the country trying to get ideas from other coaches and OC's, from the NFL all the way down to the high school level.
How do you not finalize a deal until the assistants are picked? I dont get that. They cant even interview them until after their seasons I thought?
Not saying I buy it, but I must confess at least to a consistency to the narrative. SOS not on board with CK, preferring SF; Stickerman uses SOS resistance for leverage in negotiations with CK's agent; CK's agent turns tables on UF/Stickerman, points to media stories about SOS offering advice to Mac n crew, them not taking it, and the backlash against them for not doing so; seeks non-meddling clause wrt SOS; [some *friction* within Gator camp] Negotiations continue... Just say'n is plausible--at least not ruled out on its face. jmho/fwiw.
It's more of a "Hey, this is who I intend on bringing on as staff" *hands over list. Then UF goes, okay cool let us check everything on them, their backgrounds, see what they're red flags are and if we're comfy bringing them on. For example, Lupoi from Bama had some type of violation super early in his career. But Bama is paying that guy $950k to coach outside linebackers, and he's a monster recruiter. Johnathan Vilma said on Russillo last week that Chip had been talking to him about being a LB coach. So I'm thinking Chip already has verbal commitment from several guys who are ready to go once the trigger is pulled.
