Never been a DC? Are you serious? He was the DC at Miami before becoming the HC. His defense ranked outside the top 10 in the country ONCE. You can judge him on the fact we have ZERO depth or experience at LB, and almost all freshmen in the secondary. The defense has been about as good as it could be this year considering the youth and the amount of time they are on the field...thanks for that part Mac...keep Shannon.

I honestly have no idea why anyone wants to keep Randy. He's a miserable coach all around. His specialty is linebacker, and he hasnt recruited any good linebackers. Reese in this class is barely a 4 star and every linebacker on this team took a major step backwards, like not a single linebacker took a single step forward in any spot on the field.

I just dont get it. He's a poor recruiter AND he can't coach to save his life. What is the fascination with people and Randy? You can throw like 50 linebacker coaches names into a hat and just pick one out and the odds are exceptional that whoever you picked out of said hat will be a better recruiter and coach than Randy Shannon is.

How often does it work out when a new head coach is asked to retain assistants from the previous administration?
I know that a new coach wants to have a staff that are his guys; it makes for better staff chemistry.

There's no way Shannon takes a demotion to stay at UF. If he stays, I think he would have to be DC.

 

So... did we actually confirm that his agent was in Gainesville yesterday? The photos don't confirm such.

Stricklin could have also gone up to NYC yesterday too.... but to send the plane back and forth seems like a waste of money.

If it was Kelly's agent yesterday, it was a short visit. Hopefully that's a good sign and not a bad one...

Actually this entire staff is awful at recruiting defense. So it's really amusing to me when people say "lets keep randy" or really anyone off defense. I think Rumph can be easily replaced personally. The run defense is incredibly poor and its not JUST an issue with the linebackers, the defensive line is a major reason why this D is so bad. We rank 80th in sacks and guess what? That is pretty much entirely on the DL since Randy blitzes a corner or linebacker like 1 time a game.

Sieder? I'm cool with keeping him.

Every other position coach on this staff needs to be fired the millisecond the FSU game is over.
