Update: Kelly buzz..."The Thread" Hall of Fame bound.

It will be interesting to see us hire Chip Kelly....the Leghumpers would immediately go into meltdown mode knowing they likely will be trying to hold onto that Justin Fields commitment. I imagine Fields and Kelly would be an unbelievable combo....and they both know it. Watch the offensive recruits pile into UF as soon as we get Kelly inked. Literally I wouldn't be surprised if we get 2-3 5 star offensive recruits from other teams within a couple weeks...

 

And we saved over $8 million too.

 

My guess with the little that I know of Chip is..

He's an arrogant and confident mofo and wants to be the "Saban of the East" and knock Nick off the mountain top in the SEC.

I agree. These kids would flock to play for Kelly. All CK has to do is hire the right DC and recruiting coordinators. I have no doubt he'll pick a good OC.

I imagine our offense will be similar to the one he ran in Philly with some Oregon mixed in.

 

kelly's already getting paid 7 mil or so a year by sanfran. whatever else he makes coaching just gets taken off what they owe him. there won't be a "bidding war" for kelly. he'll get a high market salary, 6+mil and that'll be about it. he'll go where he wants.

kelly's big issue in recruiting was getting blue chip dline talent, and to a lesser extent oline. just the fact that he still had to go far away to get skill players was a pain in his ass too. not much talent in the pacific nw, comparatively speaking.

 

I’m curious. Has there been any credible sources on CK besides the fringe twitter post? I’m not pushing against it. I’d love to get him but is all this just a lot of smoke?

 

Whoever the HC is, we need to hire Josh Heupel as OC, Mario Crostobal as OL, and hopefull raid Miami staff some.

 

Plus with Chip Kelly there is no existing contract buyout to pay for. ESPN just announced more layoffs are coming.

 

Nah, his offense is a direct path to the nfl, he will dominate here. Heck he dominated at oregon. Hire a great energetic staff and go clean up. This amd get him a turnover chain, we need a ghetto superstar..

Well, if we do hire him I hope that is the case. But I don't think it's a good idea for us to believe it's a done deal even though they might be trying to structure a contract.

That's interesting. Why come to work? I read that as of January 2017 they owed him $25 million. Maybe he will be cool and work 3 years for $1 and let San Fran pay the full amount? That would be the best.

 

Big Boosters are part of the reason we currently suck IMO. They "should" have no influence in the coaching decision but since they contribute a bunch of money they do. They should have bought us an IPF and dedicated football facility (or whatever you call it) a long time ago if they wanted to have a positive effect on the program.

 

How old were these kids when he was coaching at Oregon? They may be more familiar with the fact that he's a coach who got fired in the pros. I'm wondering if recruits today might need to see his product at UF before flocking to him. Which may take a year or two to develop.

From what I hear of his personality, he's not going to wow them right off in their homes.

OTOH they may see Gator Nation so gushing about him if he's hired that they may conclude there's something to it.

if kelly coaches again it'll be because he just wants to coach. my post was in response to someone saying we'd get in a bidding war with tenn and thought that was funny considering kelly's situation.

 

I doesn't really matter if the kids remember Oregon. Dad, mom, auntie, uncle, grandma, or whomever is the directing force in the kid's life does. There will be plenty of hype. Then the kid YouTubes some Oregon highlights and runs to the signing table.

 

Pay the man 7 mil per year for next 4 seasons

4 mil is probably what we had budgeted

Take the 12 mil savings on Macs buyout and spread it over the 4 seasons.

I don't want to hear about money being an issue. We screw up this hire, and we may never recover. Chip to me is a sure way to right this ship.

The pure momentum generated by his hire would wipe the stink off this season, we'd salvage the recruiting class. You'd probably have guys like Calloway and Scarlett return to salvage their draft stock, to put up big numbers in his scheme.

That right there would be the most explosive group Chips ever had. Not mention the entire defense aside from 2 or 3 guys return as well as Harris coming back, and all our guys who missed due to suspensions.

Essentially when you count the suspension guys you'd see the same Gators team with the injection of 30-35 scholarship players, and Kelly's scheme. I think we'd be flirting with a playoff birth in all honesty
