My presumption is that since the UAA knew about this on at least 9/27 and possibly, longer - and took no action- surely they had information that assured them TG was, at some level, defensible. I assumed wrong. It would seem that recent changes to Title IX has tied the University from taking action. If TG is guilty, this is going to look very, very bad for UF:

Sure that's a given and accusations have a hard time making it thru a court of law. None of us know the evidence if there is any or if any depositions have been filed. My concern is in light of today's world, I'd rather see caution on the UAA's part, especially if its more than just 1 or 2 ladies coming forward. That's the problem. UAA might not know how big of an issue this could become and not taking caution with a head coach or his staff sets up a much bigger problem if this goes wrong.

I understand they want to keep a unified front from the beginning, especially how good this team could be. But even larger penalties maybe at stake for the University if they are not sure Golden is golden. I hope it all goes away faster than Jameis Winston running out of a Publix. I hope for CTG and his family this is nothing and his wife gains any reassurance she needs to move forward. I hope for our players they stay united and want to win for their coach, team staff, and the fans of UF. But most importantly, I hope and pray if any of our co-eds were treated disrespectfully and taken advantage of by any staff of UF or the UAA, that they would receive justice and a great apology by all people involved.

It’s called The Independent Florida Alligator for a reason. Since the early 70s it is a self-supporting business. I believe the business entity is called Campus Communications. I don’t know if it’s still the case, but at least at one time they also owned The High Springs Herald.
And they have their own lawyers—it’s not just a bunch of kids without supervision.
And TV 20 also ran the story.
None of this is meant to suggest that the full story is known—and may never be

I think it's an indicator that UF can not act on the matter in the midst of the investigation; nothing more. But I sure would like for you to be right.

I will wait and let the investigation play itself out. That said this sort of activity didn't start an UF. Maybe it would be of use to check TG's previous stops. See if there are any problems at previous jobs. If nothing is found that changes peoples opinions.

He was in Congress and was caught
He was a US Congressman from NY who was caught sending photos of Mr. Johnson to someone and other stupid things. He was outed and now has a silly podcast last I read. That was my analogy, for what it’s worth.

part of the issue is it appears the coaching staff is implicated not Just the head bball coach. Strangest story I've heard in decades about a coach.
Why would someone go to these lengths to make this story up?

IIRC He coached at University of San Francisco and was an assistant at Auburn and Columbia. Other than Auburn, he would literally have millions of opportunities far from campus.

I think the UF CAN act on the matter as long as they don't discuss it or even mention it. A coach can be suspended at any time for any reason.
Disclaimer: I'm not an attorney, but I do play one on TV.

This might be obvious to everyone already so forgive me if I sound like an idiot but it seems the defamation lawsuit is against The Alligator, not (necessarily) the accuser. Rather than let UF deal with the situation internally and before the defendant had a chance to defend himself, The Alligator decided to run what was basically a smear campaign against Golden. As @tampajack1 said they shouldn’t done anything while there was an ongoing investigation. They wanted the clicks and exposure and the money that came with it. Now they may end up paying up

Revenge for how they felt they were treated by Todd? Setting up an attempted lawsuit against a very rich man?

I dunno, but older country songs feature them all too often. My brother has one - pretty cool really but the sonics of 45’s isn’t high.

Yeah the Alligator doesn't have any duty to keep these accusations private. I bag on them all the time, but if an accuser files a title IX report on a coach and then makes the newspaper aware of it, they should write a story. It is news. Now, how they choose to write the story is another thing altogether. Too many times it is written in the most salacious manner, while trying to blindside the subject of the story when they reach out for comment right before they go to press.

It looks like someone went to the Alligator directly because they have direct quotes. The quotes are maybe two sentences and contain “I think” and “they probably” opinions too, so quite speculative - and purely for the sensational to add spice to the article. Gives you a glimpse into the inter-workings and angling at The Alligator to do this.

As previously mentioned, If Todd is being "set up, or railroaded", hey it's an absolute abomination, and displays an unbelievable level of callousness by the accusers which, if I understand correctly, is coming from two females, that were former students.

On the other hand. if these accusations are even partially true, I see little chance that Golden will survive.

If anyone watched the Buddy Martin podcast on this subject Friday, and the attorney that was on the show, Todd has a tough row to hoe, given the nature of public perception. The accusation alone will be difficult for him to overcome. I'm not an attorney but Franz Beard seemed to suggest filing a title 9 in and of itself, is an incredibly serious situation, and suggested very few, if any, persons that have such charges leveled against them survive, at least in the realm of public perception.
