It became a soap opera. I lost interest and they should have ended a season earlier.
1923 is better. We’ll see if they can handle it better.

I enjoyed 1923, sounds like at least one more season.

Hoosiers was available recently for me to watch with the kiddos if you missed it back in 1986…

They don’t make them like that anymore!

Other aspects of life have unfortunately severely impeded my movie watching of late. I have only seen A history of violence from this list. I remember liking it.

I’ve revisited some classics. Night Moves with Gene Hackman is still killer. It’s a film noir, but in color. One modern film that I think is up your alley is BJ Novak’s Vengeance. Darkly comic mystery/thriller.

Was hoping you’d come along and contribute. I trusted your suggestion last year…trying to remember the name of it. A guy hangs out in an old house and a monster seems to come each night. I liked it.
You should give The Drop a try. No gore, good character development and your wife should like it too.
Come back and tell us if you do see it.

    A different take

    'HOOSIERS' SUCKS - SBNation.com

It was OK but there have been oodles of better movies since then.

Ah yes, after midnight. I do love that one. The Drop sounds great. I’ll give a go, in my slow movie watching pace.

After midnight. That’s it! I do like these kind of movies!
I don’t want to talk it up too much because some of the better flicks are so good because they are underrated.
I really liked the drop. Worth 4 bucks on prime.
My wife and I talked about it for a couple days afterwards.

I actually took your recommendation last year on a western horror movie. Can’t think of the name, it had Kurt Russell in it. It wasn’t terrible.

I need to step away from the TV - I’ve seen all of those and mostly agree with your ratings.

This is slightly off-topic, but your mentioning Don Quixote made me remember that about seven or eight years ago someone said that Don Quixote was their favorite novel of all time. For some reason I remembered is being you. Is that correct?

I love bone tomahawk too. Though I never recommend it due to the… um, later scenes.

Wait, I have seen this movie! Sorry it was years ago, so it took my middle aged brain a bit to realize it. Yes this was a good film.

Here are some not as well-known movies and series that I enjoyed:

The forgotten battle — the WWII battle of the Schelde

Naked Among Wolves - Buchenwald prisoners hide baby

Generation War - 5 German friends go to war and promise to return (subtitles)

The Old Man - retired CIA agent off the grid hunted by CIA, series

Valley of Tears - Yom Kippur war, series subtitled (BTW, I was there just two months before the war broke out)

Counterpart - people exist in two parallel dimensions and some travel across. Fascinating.

Fauda - Arab Israeli stories; series; subtitles; very good

Rebellion - forming the Irish state; series

Shtisel - Israeli Hasidic family; series; fascinating insights into that way of life

April Skies - Three stories based in three countries in Europe. Three languages with three sets of peoples, all intertwine to the same tragedy.

The Baker and the Beauty - baker meets superstar; set in Miami, a little preachy, but a nice diversion; series

Family Tree - comedy about a man trying to trace his family tree, with Chris O’Dowd; series
