Are you excusing their conduct or just sharing an irrelevant piece of information?

Ima haveto excuse myself. Not litigating this--just felt impelled to point out that this case isnt nearly as clear cut as the first 14 posts would suggest.

They had moved past pursuit and blocked the road, armed with a shotgun. They could have easily disengaged as well. I think since they were the armed ones the onus was on them to back off. That's just my opinion though and a judge/jury could see things differently.

1--Wouldn't there need to be proof that a crime was committed in order to stop the guy? On the call, they claimed he looked at a house that was under construction. Technically, maybe a misdemeanor, but one that would never get processed.

2--The Dad claimed he thought the jogger was a criminal. But this does not give the Dad the right to stop and confront the jogger. For a citizen's arrest, the citizen must witness the crime being committed. Again, from what we know, the Dad thought a black man he didn't know was breaking into houses, and when the Dad saw the jogger take a peak into a house under construction, assumed the jogger must be the criminal?

What did the Dad really know about the man that he had a big part in killing? That he was black. That he jogged. And that he looked into a house under construction. Guess that's enough info in Georgia for white guys to get away with killing a black guy!

Bottom line, did the white guys witness a felony being committed? No. Did the white guys know for sure the black jogger was a criminal breaking into houses? Again, no. Did the white guys know what reason(s) the jogger may have peaked into a house under construction? Again no, and the reason could have been completely innocuous like the jogger worked in construction, was possibly renovating his house and wanted to look to get some ideas, or any number of reasons. And what did the jogger get for jogging while black? Shot dead by a couple of white guys.

I would like to see an expectation of documentation to accompany this ability. We like for our police to have cams, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect citizens acting in a similar capacity to police (excuse the rough edges) to have to be accountable for justifying the nature of a pursuit with weapons (encompassing, necessarily, the justification of the shooting in such cases).

    What the video shows

He's initially running down the road, near the centerline strip, looking like he's going to pass the parked truck on the left.

Notice the man's feet at this point, near the rear of truck shadow.

At this point the jogger darts to the right and runs around the right side of the truck. Maybe thinking he can get away by outrunning the idiots?

The camera cuts away for most of what happens nexts.

    murder1.jpg

The next thing you can see is that the man with the gun has moved to the front of the truck and is crossing over in pursuit when the jogger engages him ...

Edit: Also notice the car door is open when the video cuts back, so this is likely when the man grabbed his gun. The jogger might not have even realized there was a gun involved until he passed the truck and saw the guy just a few feet away and coming at him with a shotgun. What do you do then, @92gator?

    murder2.png

    My opinion.

You can argue all you want about whether or not it was smart of the jogger to engage them rather than keep trying to get away. Maybe he felt the armed man had an angle on him to run him down or thought they were going to shoot him in the back, and wanted to go down fighting. Who knows.

What is clear to me is that they put him in a situation where his life was being threatened he had no good options.

Anyone who thinks this is anything other than an execution needs to take off their covid masks and get some oxygen.

I'm sure you'd be making the same lame "he was the aggressor" arguments if it was your white kid who'd gotten gunned down in cold blood for having done nothing wrong.

Bullshit, you would have already lawyered up and sued everyone instead of playing self-righteous contrarian on a message board.

Scenarios where gun-toting civilians try to play superhero cop almost always end tragically. Whether it's George Zimmerman following a kid after police instruct him not to, Michael Drejka playing parking patrolman or these lunatics hunting down a guy out for a jog. It would be great if these psychos simply called the police and then sat their trigger-happy asses down somewhere, but nooo.

Fight or flight are the 2 typical reactions, not flight or surrender. He wasn't expecting to be chased down by guys with guns and had to make a quick decision. Sorry, this is not a gift wrapped case of self defense when they were the ones who initiated it.

Just pointing out that its not quite so clear cut as most seem to make out

I'll conclude by saying someone died, so it warrants a thorough investigation and evidentiary hearing.

    But I'll withhold further judgment.

Let the process proceed, and may justice be served to the extent possible.

I think that's reasonable, even if not popular. Certainly not 'contrarian' for the sake of raising a fuss.

Using law enforcement phrasing such as the decedent engaging in an altercation is intentional language designed to make Ahmaud Arbery appear less than human.

Ahmaud Arbery was hunted down and murdered in broad daylight on video.

I think that might be a bit rash at this point--though by the same token, I cant rule it out conclusively either.

Some of the points 92 is making are fair, and I don’t think he is saying he agrees with what they did.
These guys are morons, and deserve life. But I would bet they are never convicted of anything. Gun or not, completely inappropriate that they came up on him or not, the kid ran towards them. The way these moronic stand your ground laws are written, they are going to skate.

hope I am proven wrong but sadly confident I won’t be. It will go to trial because of politics, but 12 jurors in a town like Brunswick won’t convict.

And some wonder why black folks still say real racism is a part of their lives. When they see something like this and realize no arrests were made. I used to jog all the time. Worst thing ever happened were some punks throwing an orange at me. Never chased down by a truck with loaded shotguns. That had to be scary as sh#T. Probably would have fought for my life as he did.

Heck, even if he is found to be the felon, pretty sure it is not a capital offense and chasing down a felon and shooting them in the street is not the way to handle it. Follow him until the cops show. He is on foot, you are in a truck...you should be able to keep up.

That is the point. If this guy were white, this wouldn't have ever happened.

Kid was murdered. People trying to rationalize anything after reading the story and watching the video need to wake up.

Like I wrote, it's not unambiguous.

I'd say it's just as easy, if not easier to view his actions as fighting back against someone(s) chasing him with a gun.

They can be full of it as far as his having done anything wrong other than being black and running down the street.

First of all, NONE OF THESE GUYS saw a crime committed NOR had any reason to believe this guy committed a crime. They are in no way entitled to confront this guy with guns. Even a fully uniformed officer would not have probable cause for an arrest here.

Second, these clowns were 3 guys in a civilian truck stopping this guy. They had no visible (apparent or implied) authority to cause him to think anything other than they were attacking. They were armed and confrontational and yet some on here are saying the victim attacked and it was self defense? 3 armed guys confronting 1 guy and he fights back and you kill him and call it self defense???? That is utter bullshit.

Finally, you cannot deny the two important underlying factors here. Law enforcement officials given the "benefit of the doubt" by other law enforcement officials. I have seen this with spousal abuse and it is sickening. I get the bonds cops have but do your damn job.

Second, I cannot believe this is handled the same way if the attackers were black and the jogger were white. Indeed, I remember that case - white jogger allegedly attacked by black teenagers and coerced into confessions by cops but later exonerated by DNA. Not to make this political, but Trump called for death penalty on them even after exonerated (and still does). Odds he weighs in here?
Trump still refuses to admit he was wrong about the Central Park 5

This does NOT look like manslaughter to me. It looks like murder.

I've had stuff stolen from my property and law enforcement couldn't do anything about it.

Doesn't mean I'm going to grab my firearms and start chasing potential suspects around.

But after a while it gets frustrating.

Did the deceased person have a record or any history of criminal behaviour? How about the guys with firearms?

On the surface the optics look pretty bad but would like more info about the situation before getting into a debate here with anyone.
