22 country’s envoys, but from the Afghan side no women, and female rights aren’t on the agenda, despite them being the only Islamic nation that doesn’t allow girls to go to school. this is an example as to why the UN is so feckless much of the time, they rightfully got blasted by the press over it. I dont know. Sounds like this is the 3rd meeting and the Taliban had no involvement in the first two and this one is tenuous. Is it surprising that they wont solve world peace in the first meeting? It’s a mess and I dont know that the UN lecturing from the get go is the best strategy. In fact I bet nothing will come of it but is it really the UN’s fault the Taliban sucks? The Taliban weren’t invited to the first, and Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said they set unacceptable conditions for attending the second in February, including demands that Afghan civil society members be excluded from the talks and that they be treated as the country’s legitimate rulers. Undersecretary-General DiCarlo visited Afghanistan in May and invited the Taliban Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, to attend the upcoming meeting. The Taliban accepted and said they are sending a delegation. “We do hope that delegation will be led by de facto Foreign Minister Muttaqi,” Otunbayeva said, but the Taliban may send another minister.
