I have more issue with the coaches not sitting him on the bench than anything else after that sort of effort.

Big surprise. You always have more issue with the coaches. Why hold the players accountable when you can heap more on the coaches?

Andy Staples is what one of my uncles used to call a fart sniffer. He apparently savors the stink so much that he cuts one occasionally just to have something to blab about.

This is an area that should drive improvement. For the first time in years we will have enough talent to sit slackers. Until this upcoming season, getting benched was not a serious threat for most of our starters. Now we at least have some 4-5 Star underclassmen that are enough of a threat to push the older players

Slackers should be sat 100% of the time, regardless of depth. Keeping them in the game implies this behavior is acceptable...and it is not. It ruins morale.

More times than not when dealing with college kids, the issues lies with the adults and not the kids. We MUST set the example and demand unwavering commitment. You do NOT stand a chance without that level of buy-in.

If he was indeed slacking (which I don't buy), then shame on the coaches for allowing it...awful leadership. Bench him. Now.

It's not like we were fighting for a title, ya know, and he transferred anyways.

I disagree. It's not as easy as bash the coaches whether fighting for a title or not. As a coach you are sometimes trying the carrot and sometimes the stick. If the stick is unavailable you only have the carrot. Maybe they were doing everything to reach this kid and help him, in turn, reach his potential. It's not as clear-cut as you portray. He pretty obviously did better than average (according to PFF grading) and that's apparently just glossed-over . . . they coached him up pretty good . . . so maybe they tried to teach and correct and re-teach and re-correct . . . and who goes in that's as good or better if he sat? Now we have some depth and more options for the coaches.

I agree in principle, but we as Florida fans are not patient enough when our coaches do what they often need to do.

Remember when Kelvin Taylor got the penalty for the throat slash and Mc got on him good? Taylor deserved all he got and more for that stupid move but many fans and admin criticized Mc for overreacting.

Spot on. If you were working your butt off and a guy ahead of you- big name guy- was slacking but still got the starts, morale goes down the drain because players see it and stop trusting the staff.

Very valid points, but agree to disagree....whole heartedly.

The #1 reason I think we are underachieving is due to morale. In no way, shape, or form...Would I play in a program where slackers get playing time (again, I do NOT think he was slacking, just going along with the conversation for fun). I've been in this environment before and we always underachieved.

If the coaches accept anything less than your best, then that's what they'll get from the bunch. Then good luck coaching with different standards the following year just because the depth is now there to change the tactics. "Hey guys....We have depth now, so this year I REALLY mean it...you'll be benched if you don't play hard"....At that point you have to re-write the standards, and you'll have guys that don't buy in....and it's a hamster wheel.

Just like with Urban at Bowling Green - demand the absolute best or get out. From day 1. Now.

Maximum effort, all the time, is the standard. Show me the group that doesn't meet this, and I will show you the group that will underperform 100% of the time. Especially in the competitive world of sports.

+ @DieAGator 's comments above too. Trust is key. I'd never trust a coach that leads like this. Never. Not for a day.
