Yeah, those older EdD programs on the east coast are no joke. But you have some others... yikes. And it's really not fair to the people who went through a rigorous, full-meal experience to have West Louisiana State Tech A&M offering a credential with the same name that might as well have come out of a Crackerjack box.

But in all honesty, PhDs are heading the same direction. I'm not trying to be a gatekeeper at all, but Florida worked me for mine, and I was proud to have earned it. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem the case everywhere.

  5. I reread this post and struggled with ways to cut out the politics part and decided to use that snippet. Regardless of political leaning, I like seeing politicians do their time serving this great nation and then returning to society as “normal citizens”. Again, even if we do not agree with his politics, we have to assume he chose jobs as university president and senator because he believed he could make a difference. He chose the Flagship University of the State of Florida as the next place to make a difference in this world. In doing so, he chose the Gator Nation (motto: Put Jort on Me) to affect change in this nation, and Gator football will be one of those vessels of change. At the very least it will draw attention (good or bad) to UF and perhaps the football program.

I think it went in that direction long ago, when many universities realized the $$ involved. PhDs are just the last to experience it.
I earned an MBA from UF back in the late 70s when u had to pass a comprehensive exam at the end of the program to get the degree. Now MBAs are a dime a dozen and no one requires a comp exam.

MBAs trend to be $ makers for universities, because of relatively high enrollments and students who will come w/o financial assistance. PhDs cost $ and are mostly about prestige + research assistance for profs.

Yep, but it wasn't always that way. Son has an MBA and a PhD so I'm aware of the process.

    That should automatically disqualify him.

For once I agree with the wing man!! Tailgating on campus was nerve racking under him you were afraid to get a citation for drifting around tailgates and dui’s for sitting on a cooler if it happened to have wheels.

Is a University Pres a better job than being a US Senator? I'm talking in general, not specifically the UF Pres position.

I hear of former politicians, like Mayors, take these jobs, but I always looked at is as some kind of post-polics/retirement gig for them

Most politicians don’t have a BS from Harvard, PhD from Yale, Ivy teaching experience and past experience as a university President on their resume.
