Yes, we should give him the benefit of the doubt, but the allegations seem fairly easily proven. I'm waiting to hear his defense.

Like Bobby Bowden always used to say, "We're praying for a hack."

The coverup is usually what gets you fired- it is always best to get out in front of this stuff and to be TOTALLY transparent

Often in these situations that are based in truth, accusations pop up from the past. I wonder if anything was ever rumored at SF or elsewhere.

    Easily proven or disproven.

Not burying my head in the sand. It doesn't look good right now but that goes both ways.

Exactly, unless you screwed up two other situations and panic.

which again, if there are multiple people and this has been known about for months in certain circles or at least rumors about it, how is it that none of this ever happened to and with him and any of his staff at San Francisco or any of his other stops in the last 15+ years. It seems like very, very extreme behavior for someone who has never alleged to have done this before. So all these rumors pop up in the last 6 months but not a single rumor in 15 years of this type of behavior ever happening before?

Like I said, he was either 1. really good at hiding it 2. just started at UF 3. this is mostly BS

This is not the kind of behavior that just starts happening out of nowhere. This is a character flaw if true, and one that would have been easily found out if they dug into his social media accounts before he was hired. It's all there out in the open on Instagram

As far as aka, I was just referencing his post in this thread yesterday where he stated that these rumors were going around coaching circles for months. I'd like to know which coaching circles he was referring to. I don't have any problem with him not posting rumors until they are made public, but yesterday he did indeed say that there has been rumors.

Nobody knew about Larry Nassar until they did. Also, you make it sound like its just easy to come forward with allegations when its not.

I never said it was easy to come forward with allegations. Don't put words in my mouth. Also, I was referring to rumors of this type of behavior as well. Rumors don't require anyone officially coming forward with anything.

You're comparing Golden to Larry Nassar. Let's not get light years ahead of ourselves here, that's a pretty ridiculous comparison

Highly unlikely. There will probably be a press conf today or tomorrow announcing a suspension.

From everything I've read, the complaint was anonymous. Do you have something to the contrary?

Yes, I meant to convey that the allegations are easily proven or disproven. Bidirectional.

I don't think Barfield is right, because he doesn't understand how claims against state and local governments work in Florida. Just saying there is no specific law in Florida addressing privacy in Title IX claims is a big "so what"?

First, Title IX IS a federal law. Whether any privacy requirements in Title IX trump state law I can't speak to, because that is a complicated subject. There are many instances in which the supremacy clause of the constitution and other federal laws allow the feds to trump state law.

While Florida does have sunshine and open government laws, that is only part of the story. State and local governments really have no obligation to talk to the press unless they want to, or disclose certain information without a proper public records request. "Proper" being an important word.

State and local governments get sued all the time. When claims and suits are filed against governments, they have the right to withhold certain information, such as the results of their investigations, their legal strategies, their settlement strategy, etc. Their governing bodies are also allowed to conduct duly noticed meetings with their attorneys out of the public eye. A court reporter will transcribe the meeting, but the transcript will not be released until after the case is resolved, if then, usually after receipt of a proper public records request. Otherwise, a governmental body would be seriously disadvantaged in the lawsuit by having to tell the other side everything.

Given the timing of this claim, I doubt UF has received a proper public records request. Whether they have to disclose much of anything then depends on the request, and what Title IX mandates. I wouldn't be surprised if they disclose a redacted version of the complaint at some time, but not much else, unless they had decided to terminate someone, in which case they would say that in general terms.

UF has a very competent legal department. They know what they are doing.
