He’s been called a 4-D player by his teammates for knowing the playbook better than most. I think he’s gonna surprise this year.
I would never argue that a bit of weight loss would not be great for the young man, but Dez played 418 snaps last year. 2nd most on the DL last year. That is plenty for a starting DT. Suggesting he is taking up a roster spot from someone else is more than silly.
He’s clearly talented but the competition coming Rt behind him is also. He may need to be at his best to keep his spot. I’d be disappointed for him if he got passed because of his weight. That said, it’s not always the same for people to gain or lose weight.

It jumps out to me that UF doesn't have one player from Daytona Beach on the roster. Dez lost four 1 lb. cans of corn, now 435. I'm still concerned as we all are to some degree, but Dez is the one living and playing at that weight. Good thing it is cooler at night in Utah than Florida.
I have found (in a lifetime of dieting) that while exercise is an important component of weight loss, reducing calorie intake is by far the most critical part of losing weight. You can burn off 1000 calories in an hour of exercise and the eat one high calorie snack and consume over a thousand calories. The only way to be truly successful in losing weight is to permanently reduce calorie intake AND have a daily exercise routine to boost your metabolism. There are no shortcuts to permanent weight loss. Desmond is clearly overeating by a large amount and no combination of workouts and football practice is able to keep up with that. I too fear for his heart safety.
