Found this article that discusses tempo KenPom 101: What the college basketball metric system is and how it ranks Michigan
Our steals per possession & game are #62/#68 respectively. Since that's not high, I'd assume we're playing good defense (#15) & running the opponent's shot clock down (I don't see this stat anywhere though). Then when we take possession, we're pushing it.
I got an update from Team Rankings this am, these are season projections they do weekly. 23-7 overall 12-6 SEC record 92% to make tournament (4 seed) 14% chance of winning SEC #18 team in country #4 SEC team Next game 98% chance of winning against Troy
The ratings of the teams ranked between 10 and 25 are so close right now, it doesn’t take much to make a large rankings jump up or down. Probably won’t be the last movement we make before conference games start.
I guess after this week and weekend, with lots of marquee matchups, KenPom will start to be a bit more accurate with meaningful inputs.
Yeah, computer rankings are abject silliness early in the season. Realtime RPI had us about 40 spots behind FSU as of this morning.
RPI has always been silly. Also silliness with Sagarin where we are WAY behind FSU. But Sagarin is in the Bayesian stage where they use preseason guesses before the teams are "connected" where it is all about what happened this year.
