    Like I said, there are 10,000+ student athletes, the majority of whom are model citizens. You can choose to clutch your pearls at the handful of student athletes who do bad shit and use that as an indictment of a declining society, I'll focus on the 9,900+ student athletes who manage to stay out of trouble and do good for society. There are plenty of stories of college athletes doing wonderful things, from organizing toy drives to helping rebuild homes to helping the less fortunate etc yet I never see anyone say "American society is alive and well" for those stories. But when stuff like this happens, suddenly it's "American society is broken." Interesting how that works.

    OK . . . we've started wandering into politics, although not seriously. This discussion of society vs. a bad apple is OK for now since it directly relates to sports. However, if someone comes along and ruins it for us, we'll have to stop.

    He was a football player and I’m not sure if athletes have a higher rate of crime or not. I’m just saying that we accept these things way to easily. Sports programs for the most part weed these types out early, I know we’ve lost a few.
