The problem is when you think you need it but you really didn't, which you only realize after you have killed an innocent, which is happening far too often.

Too often, it's Chechkov Act I

Around five years ago I received the rather common scam phone call that I owed the IRS funds for unpaid taxes and that if I didn't respond immediately all of my bank accounts would be frozen. I thanked the scammer for notifying me and told him I would be glad to pay the bill but first I wanted to call the IRS to verify the outstanding balance at which point he immediately terminated the call. I normally do not even bother responding to obvious scams but I decided to play along and see how he would respond. By the way I keep receiving scam phone calls all of which go into voicemail telling me that a large purchase very often a top of the line I Phone has been charged to my Amazon account and to phone the scammer if I didn't make the purchase. Obviously, an attempt to get credit card and/or Amazon account information.

How often does it really happen? Of course when it does you hear about it on the news. There are 83,000,000. gun owners in the US by estimate. Estimated 393,000,000. guns. Rare that any lawful gun owner hurts or kills a person with a gun. Notice I said lawful gun owners not gang members. The man that killed the Uber driver could have used a bat or knife and done the same thing.

Hard to say, because Congress bans federal research into gun violence through the Dickey Amendment. There is also no central repository for police shootings.

Some things we don't want to know. So yes, I'm going from news articles. I would LOVE to base it on systematic knowledge. Make sure you lobby to have these prohibitions repealed

I’ve actually driven past this guy‘s house multiple times. He lives right off a US Highway.

There’s no excuse for what he did. There were so many other options. Did they even allow the woman to explain she was also being taken in by the scammer? He could’ve easily gotten her license plate number and called the police.

While knives or baseball bats could indeed be deadly weapons it doesn't change the fact the overwhelming majority of homicides committed in the US are committed with firearms and it's still far easier to use a firearm than to attack with an alternative weapon or one's fists for that matter.

And the majority of those are not law abiding citizens they are felons and gangs. The gun laws only limit and restrict lawful people not criminals.
