Two players, same number, on field simultaneously

    Don’t merge or delete this thread mods. This one must stand on its own the way the play stands on its own.

    I ask you Billy Napier what the hell is the point of hirng this army of staffers if none of these desk jockeys and film evaluators can pick up on the fact that two players with the same number both contribute on ST?

    Seriously, no one noticed?

    Video guys, equipment managers, analysts, trainers constantly walking the facility? No one? WTF!!!!!!!!

    Not one single person thought to bring up one of these two points:

    1. Maybe one of these guys should not be on ST?

    2. Maybe one of these guys should change numbers?


    Apalled by no one in this “army of personnel” failing to pick up on this and tell Napier. Or even worse if Napier knew then putting someone in charge of making sure two #3s don’t take the field together.

    Almost as bad as our two OL blocking each other in 2013. Almost.

    I’m sure the line will be to blame the players but it’s 100 percent a coaching failure.

    Players with better internet recruiting rankings and/or black uniforms would have prevented this for sure.

    Yes because expecting paid professionals and experienced football players not to do this is simply asking too much.

    Herbstreit and Fowler said that one of them was supposed to switch to 33 when they went out for special teams and the player forgot to. Still on the coaching staff in my opinion but the plan was to switch numbers and it didn’t happen for whatever reason.

    They’re still kids. If dude forgot to switch to 33 I guess that is ultimately on SS as the AD bc he hired CBN but what it really was is a mistake by a kid that most certainly won’t do it again based on the feedback he has already received and will continue to.

    If you win games, these things are chuckled at and forgotten. If you’re in over your head and have losing seasons, they’re very big deals.

    It isn’t! A mistake od this magnitude is a reflection of our coaching staff and of the state of the program.

    This was so freaking preventable. And yet it cost us bigtime.

    Solution: no dupe numbers, no need to switch jerseys! Are we gonna switch helmets and jockstraps next?

    100% preventable if you just don’t have dupe numbers!

    What was weird was the commenters said “the Florida coaches thought that might be a problem”.

    So… the coaches were actually aware of it ahead of time! That makes it even crazier.

    I noticed our OL does that stupid “frozen in place” that FSU used to get incessantly mocked for under their old regime. This is how you go from hopeful rebuild to “unwatchable product” in 60 minutes.

    Don’t be THAT after the game tool. It was bad but we didn’t lose the game because of it.

    I think you’ll find many power 5 teams have dupe numbers between offense and defense

    No but it is a symptom of a bigger problem: Napier’s in-game coaching is deficient in many areas.

    He didn’t say it cost us the game. He said it cost us “bigtime”. Which is absolutely true.

    Refer to my first post:

    1. One of the guys should not be on ST

    2. If both are to be on ST then one needs to change numbers.

    I can’t believe we are trying to talk our way out of rationalizing this one.
