Why the heck would the SEC want the Univ of Vandy @ Charlottesville? They are a much better fit in the BIG.

    Agreed.

They won’t be moving into Jack Murphy Stadium though. Somebody’s gonna have to build a stadium with somebody’s money

they’re really only our 30 or 40 division one teams anyway, but they can keep pretending that these other teams are competing on the same level if they would like.

I don't disagree that UVA probably fits better in the Big-10, but you never know. The SEC might want to expand their footprint into NC and VA.

It may evolve to that over 50 years...but it isn't today.

Once again, this is ACC territory. Not something that will happen anytime soon with their long contracts, and huge buyouts.

Hard to say. It's largely going to depend on what happens with FSU and their lawsuits. UNC has already shown that they have at least some level of interest in challenging the GOR. They were willing to join FSU's fight last year. I think there are probably several ACC schools secretly pulling for FSU to open the door for them, particularly Clemson and UNC.

Time will tell, but I don't think ACC goes down without giving one hell of a fight.

The MURPH! I loved that old crap hole. Only place you could watch Tony Gwynn go 3/4, eat fish tacos, and drink cheap Tecates.

Rubio’s Fish tacos. I watched Tony Gwynn play many a game. It was like seven dollars to sit in centerfield on the rail in section 000.

is it pretty much everybody’s contract over within about 10 years? I think there’s going to be some big shake ups in the next decade or two

Again, that's a pro team and a pro team attitude. There are 3 NFL franchises in Florida but I bet if you asked everyone in the state who their favorite TEAM was, a sizable portion would say UF, FSU or some other college. I know my favorite team is the Gators and I know many like that, even ones that like FSU the best.

Do that same thing in NY or MA or California, and you will get a pro team maybe 8 or 9 times out of 10, in the south (FL, Ga, Ala., Tn) I bet a college team gets mentioned 6 times out of 10, maybe more.

Decade is what I'm thinking too, unless these two conferences fork over a lot of money to break up the ACC and Big12.

Thanks for that rather speculative lecture.

Sorry to question the wisdom of your rant, but you do have a picture of Walter Matthau as your avatar. I met him about 35 years ago or so. He was, without question, the most insufferable, narcissistic, egomaniacal and rude prick I have ever met. He fancied himself as a comedian, but he was about as funny as a turd in a punch bowl.

Everyone in the room tried to get away from him. Like... everyone.

Agree but as CF further morfs into the NFL I believe CF gets hurt as the NFL can do the NFL better than CF. CF was unique even if it was a facade.

Let's look at it from another angle...the more consolidation we have in media, the more we'll have in sports. Despite the seeming plethora of media outlets. I can see the pendulum swinging back to 3-4 outlets (if we're not almost there already, i.e., ESPN). Once that happens, there is a lower barrier to two, three conferences.

Yes, and the NFL model is the same with Baltimore and Cleveland: go ahead and say "no way" and then suddenly, the impossible becomes possible. That IS the brilliance of the NFL model.
