of you want to to back almost 20 years to reference those guys, be my guest.

You’re also kinda making a point against him (BG) if he’s only as good of a recruiter as the HC is of a recruiter. Napier is a former WR coach himself so us having the haul we had this past cycle should be a darn near a yearly thing.

Again, my ORIGINAL response to this was if we can find a clear upgrade do it, if not, then I don’t mind him being retained. I don’t perceive him as untouchable

The contracts are soon to expire. Why would a new OC not have a say in who is hired as our OL or WR coach?

On coaches, I think you have to look at all the rooms and then triage. WR and RB are not rooms I’d prioritize addressing if I’m BN. Tight end, OL recruiting and passing game are opportunities for improvement to me.

On the OL, I do wonder if there are not 2 schools of thought. Classic would be pay for 5 stars out of high school and know that you likely only get 3 years with 1 being a freshman (usually trouble). Or get 3/4 stars, build depth and plan to start 3/4 year players (relying on the portal to fill holes). I’d likely go with the latter if my budget demanded paying qbs, wr, and cornerbacks first.

I guess every head coach is different. Im not sure ive ever consulted one employee before ive hired another. I guess id listen if a valued employee said he had problems with a certain guy or recommended someone but its 100% my decision.

I can make the same argument that the only time he hasn’t pulled elite talent was with a coach that recruits didn’t like.

I don’t understand a single justification for getting rid of a guy that just pulled three top 100 WR in one class. That’s crazy

NIL has certainly changed things but….as outsiders we rarely know which coaches were truly instrumental in attaining a kids recruitment/commitment. Was it the position coach? The head coach? The area recruiter (staffs are usually split into regions)? Some off field staffer? (Hamilton was critical with Lagway. Jamar Chaney was another great recruiter as an off field analyst). Or was it a combination of all of the above in different ratios for different recruits?

My take…if a positional unit is consistently recruited at an elite level, it is likely the positional coach pulling alot of weight. If it varies year to year it is likely they are getting more help and are not a super recruiter.

I certainly had input when hiring guys for my team. I was the third interview for my guys. I did first and seconds for any position. Always in the third interview for my guys, usually first too, unless they’d applied for something else.

I wouldn’t think the oc would be allowed to just show up day one and cut the existing staff and hire all new, but I’d think he’d be involved in any new contracts, and even have some input in letting some guys go.

He also has a proven track record of developing guys. The only coach I'd trade him for is Hartline

Much different for me as we are more construction types and most hires are known quantities. The qualifications are mostly
    1. Show up( not a significant amount of deaths in the family)
2.work hard and dont fubar everthing
    3. Dont be irritating to be around
    4. which really should be number one, strong back and a weak mind. Strong back not necessary.

The most productive WR years in the last 20 years occurred under BG. Not even close …and under 3 different HCs. I don’t understand why this is a discussion.

I think we are on the latter option to save some NIL on skill positions and assure crucial players stay such as our developed OL. We won't get much better OL play than what we had last year and will have this year. The big question is do we need 2 OL coaches to do that and pay Sale a boatload.

He has them playing well too. That part of our team doesn’t need fixing

Some coaches are assigned territory rather than positional recruiting. The lack of a relationship could be due to another position coach assigned to that city or region.

LSU when Billy G was there as WR coach signed Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. Also coached Rueben Randall at the time

Copeland when he signed with UF could have gone to Bama. Remember his Mom’s disappointment when he announced he was coming to UF rather than Bama.

I don't care either way with BG, i think he has done great work in his career, and knows the position, but let's be real, Lagway is the main reason those guys committed not BG. If we didn't have Lagway we don't get Dallas Wilson. These kids want to play with a great QB not a good WR coach.

    How about both?
Watching Pearsall and Dike and Badger boost their careers at UF is a likely factor too. When Ricky went in the first round DJ was still in High School

Check out the articles on the home page. It's about relationships. From the head coach to all the staff and players. Florida has everything. We are rolling.

“Really just the relationship I have with them,” Montgomery said on why he stuck to Florida. “Not just Coach [Billy] Napier or Billy Gonzales but I have a relationship with all the staff even with the people who do the nametags like Katie [Turner]. That was like the main thing really it just felt like home every time I came back.”
