So don’t prepare for the bowl game? I don’t know how you can navigate this tight window any better. It’s a lame observation on his part.
I may be wrong, but i think you are misinterpreting Davis. The era is the portal to improve the roster. It has a compressed time frame that all coaches are complaining about. Coaches will get quality players out of it with or without official visits, and those that need high quality players will put their processes in place to maximize being competitive to get them if that means visits, as some will require that. I would have visits on that week. Tampa and Gainesville aren't on different continents. Bowl games are a reward to players to enjoy, not coaches and analysts. Reasonable people can disagree on this. I think Davis is upset about perceived or real slowness to react in the portal, that he thinks is systemic. I happen to think it was more about not being competitive with NIL last year that made us search harder for diamonds in the rough that we aced in spades with several. We shouldn't have that problem this yea and can go after some fairly big fish.
And this (NIL crap) is too much like the NFL... and why I knew we were heading for some real BS in college football.
As someone who truly loves both the NFL and CFB, it's always amazing to me to hear how much some CFB fans hate the NFL. Especially when they say stuff like you did. The current CFB is like having only the bad parts of the NFL. The salary cap, player's union, structured media rights, revenue sharing, and clear-cut playoff format are all things that would basically cure all the bad we're seeing in CFB now. But I guess CFB fans are too hung up on the old model where players have the right to choose who they sign with on signing day and then end of rights until they leave CFB. You will stay with the same team, even if that means bleeding out your career. You will risk life altering injury without reward other than praise (and an education but don't take anything too hard because you'll need to keep 30 hrs a week free for football. Don't even think about an internship. You won't have time). On top of that, an entire industry of people will make billions while the NCAA checks receipts to see if a coach bought you a hamburger.
Maybe so, but that's going to be hard to replicate every year. Dynasties are probably a thing of the past. Kinda like the NFL.
I think we will too, but that doesn't change the fact of what these House clowns are forcing upon college football.
The NFL game is void of passion and excitement that only the college games truly exudes. It's too sanitized, and games don't really even matter because of the crappy PODS these clowns play in.
I mean all you have to do is watch any Lions home game this year to see that isn’t true. I’ve been to two Broncos games last year and this year and there’s deep passion. There is more passion in college football and the gameday atmosphere is better at a lot of college stadiums, but saying there is no passion is just false. You clearly have a lot of feelings about it so we’re not gonna get anywhere. I wouldn’t say anything but I do wish we could go back to just preferring things. Social media has made us so hateful and opinionated. In 1970, you didn’t have football fans talking about how much they hated baseball. They just didn’t pay attention to it.
It’s not about the money. It’s about acquiescing to the demands and the message that it sends. You earn playing time. He would have gotten it anyway. His representation is pimping him out to the highest bidder. Sucks because his dream was to be a Gator. The money would have come. Miami bought their entire team. How’s that working out for them?
I mean I don't disagree. I didn't say any of that. Rumors are aTm are the ones tampering and putting ideas in players heads
We have an army. No reason to shut it down completely when the team is in Tampa for the bowl game. Hell, Urban called recruits before and at halftime of our National Championship game.
I wonder if we got to a point in the negotiations, and told him to go ahead and test the market. Just to show him his ask was high, and to call Tx A&M bluff.
I would like to think if that were the case then he wouldn't have had a meltdown on his IG page. Doesn't seem to be consistent with it
