Mullen believed in alpha dogs being the leader(s) of the team. He saw this in Franks and he must have had this in spades over Trask. Rightly or wrongly, the QB starting decision was made based on more than their performances on the field, or lack thereof in Trask’s case.

It’s an ok philosophy to start with but you have to adapt when things aren’t panning out (aka Spurrier - Dean/Wuerffel). Mullen did this eventually but Trask’s injury kind of reset things. I would also say winning sure will get guys believing in you, whether your’re an alpha dog or not.

My misunderstanding, I’ve deleted my response. The posts leading up to his were about Trask/Franks. I failed to recognize he was responding to an earlier AR post.

I'm guilty of bringing up multiple qbs in this thread so the mistake is understandable.

I can understand Dan's pick, but to hear all the FL players that came out later and said how much better Trask was in practice was eye-opening. They still loved Franks, but knew that Trask was the better QB (as did any of the fans that were able to see his performances in the spring game). Bottom-line is that this is a production business and you play the player that produces the most. That was part of Dan's persona that was most abrasive...he was stubborn and thin-skinned. He didn't want to show that he had made the wrong choice initially until he was forced to in that KY game that we would have lost had Franks remained uninjured.

with numbers like that you’d think it’d be hard to keep him off the field

Just goes to show that great measurables don't always make a great FB player....I think Hunter Renfrow just scored on Bama again.

Indeed. Wouldn’t surprise me if he got an NFL preseason look cause he’s pretty solid as a gunner on ST

I hate it when any player on any team has a debilitating spring or fall camp injury.

That is nuts. No wonder Mullen was giddy about getting him. We need a Matrix brain chip in him to upload football skills other than special teams.

Treon throwing the ball into the helmets of our oline and Hardin kicking the ball into the helmets of our oline just about sums up that era.

Did players actually want him? That’s a problem if so. I love the kid and was at the game where he beat the puppies. He will always have a place with me but really?

This is the attitude we have been missing on defense for a while.
