When you look at number of DBs and OTs drafted in most recent draft you realize the positions the league prioritizes. When you watch kids grow up, the most talented typically play RB and QB but if you want get to the NFL the most talented athletes should really focus on playing DB. 50 plus DBs drafted this year. Each team may have 10 DBs on roster to 2 QBs and 4 RBs. The Anatomy of a 53-Man Roster in the NFL
If you are counting safeties as defensive backs, then you basically have just 10 players for 4 positions. If the nickel is separate then you have 5 positions.
Not sure we had too many draft eligible kids to be fair. The fact that we still pumped out a 1st rounder was nice.
And we are scheduled to play 5 of those listed QBs this coming season. That's why kids want to play for the Gators... to play in these kinds of games.
i can agree with this. I’m not mad that he was a never a top recruiter, but maaaan the room he left us in 2021 was terrible. We missed badly on the Reynolds, Fraziors, Henderson, Burke (pending) but at least we’ve flipped the room imo. I’m still hoping we land another near #1 option to pear with Wilson but that option may be on the roster already and we’ll see them emerge this year or next year.
i think Mertz can get himself a late round pick. I think he won’t test well numbers wise as he seems like an average/modest athlete but he has the moxie to improve from last year and if the offense expands and he can showcase he can make all the throws consistently, he will get drafted. I see 5th round’ish….maybe 4th round. I think this upcoming class has more depth talent wise than this past draft
I like to think of that receiver room that Billy G left was a collaborative effort, and don't put all that blame on Billy G.. But it sure would be nice to get the best receiver to sign with the Gators. Unfortunately the NIL makes that much harder than ever before. He'll just have to keep pushing to get the most out of who he gets... like he does. .
right. Even last season, we weren’t deep at WR but I never felt our offense wasn’t as consistent as we wanted it to be because we didn’t have a legit #3. I thought Jackson (and the TE’s) did fine as secondary targets last year. I think it’s gonna be tough this cycle to recruit overall prior to the season as we’re in purgatory/wait and see how the season plays out status. will be interesting to see if we overachieve this season and can pick up late season recruiting buzz, will we dip into NIL to flip some big time targets
I agree. I think EW3 is the best receiver we have gotten since Percy. We don't get him because of BG's charm. He came because CBN was all in on him. CBN should be our receivers recruiter and BG is our receiver developer. Note that both receivers coaches CBN hired were not noted as strong recruiters, while CBN is otherwise all about bringing in the talent.
