I was of the opinion that ESPN, generally speaking, had achieved maximum unwatchability with their previously existing lineup of vapid, self-enamored nincompoops. Then they gave us Pat McAfee. Boy was I ever wrong.
I'm happy to hear this and I think most of us already felt that way but I have to take it with a grain of salt after hearing his preseason comments about our defense given what we ended up seeing on the field.
Its not likely he would say I brought most of these guys in and now the roster really sucks compared to the last two years when we had the other coaches guys.
You can tell based on the average Star rating of the last two classes. The talent is at that top 10 class level. The transfers appear of good quality. Now that he has a good S&C coach and Head of nutrition, we should see our players get bigger and stronger over the next two years. No more 2nd half collapses. Still don’t think we have the OL and DL to compete. Worried our WR recruiting under Billy G is going to revert to weak classes again. Think we will get this thing turned around in the future. Confident in the structure and Billy as CEO.
And Wilson showed it on the field as a true freshman which is very encouraging. Hopefully the other two sophmores step up this year. As long as Billy has production , I don’t care where they were ranked. He got solid ranked guys, just not the 5* guys. Maybe that’s just bags.
Napier was spilling the "coach speak" yesterday. Can't say I'm surprised. Edgar Thompson tried to pry some stuff out of him but he did not take the bait. (Like the NCAA investigation / How UF handles NIL). He did concede that UF plays some "money ball" at certain positions which I found interesting. I also found it appealing that he reminded the fan base that "football" still has many positive attributes and we should not forget that, as we squabble about NIL 24/7. Anyway I'm glad Napier got to speak. He always likes to emphasize the positive and the greatness of UF as an institution. Speaking for myself, I like the way CBN was able to "recover" the talent aquisition situation after the disappointment of early signing day. Having said that, it's intimidating when one has to consider that a top 10 class puts you in about the middle of the SEC recruiting wars. And of course, may as well add FSU and Miami into that SEC recruiting war mix. Neverthless, our player rating has steadily improved, especially in HS recruiting. Like INGATORSWETRUST recently posted, UF's talent level in terms of participation in the NFL draft and SEC and All-Star placement has been low. My O&B colored crystal ball keeps humming: "Relax grasshopper" - Reasons to hope: 1) Player ratings have improved! 2) Guess who's in the QB room? Mertz and DJ Baby! 3) Some of those big baby lineman CBN recruited are growing up! 4) New assistant coaches! 5) UF is almost "camped" in the State of Florida the entire season despite the brutal schedule! 6) UF may actually have a couple of decent linebackers this campaign! 7) Speed baby speed - Napiers recruiting it, time to show it!
We’ve got some big issues to straighten out. If we can just get those weaknesses to average, we could get seven or eight wins.
