Gene Smith claims recruits asking for $5K for visit is 'common' in NIL Guess they stopped crying and said we'll just pay whatever it takes...
I would draw a line through the name of any kid who demands to be paid to visit. The height of arrogance — stay the hell away from Gainesville
I won't quit watching, I'll just stop caring nearly as much about the outcome. Football is still entertaining. Just means less. Like pro football.
I quit NFL a long time ago. Though if I lived in a city with a team I might be a fan. I'm just not interested in a competition of spending. There's very little left of the cfb we all loved.
To each their own. I respect that. Personally for me the NFL is enjoyable in that we know what It is and at least there are contracts and salary caps that along with the draft keep things competitive. I was always much more interested and passionate about college football but a combination of Florida's misfortunes along with the unfettered pay for play that Bama, Georgia etc have been using to hoard talent for 10 years while they enjoyed so much praise for how well their programs are ran has just soured me. This year's playoffs were the first I have watched since Lsu/Clemson and I barely watch anything but Gator games. That was never the case before. Much of this is sour grapes by me but it is what it is. I'll always check on in florida but if it doesn't get under control I'll most likely turn it off altogether. Edit to add that now florida is under investigation while Jalen Carter exposed the rogue way Georgia operates? Barely any coverage and almosf no traction for any story about them and their ilk. Unbelievable. Florida needs to fight this to the end.
I would think it’s to reimburse their expenses as all these unofficial visits are supposed to be on their own dime.
I can't argue against your post, their trophy case is not on par whatsoever at face value. Now at the same time, has osu had to face an Alabama, lsu, and some good Ole Miss teams every single season. Tbh osu has vastly underacheaved with all those advantages. Would TAMU having decided to go all in once they joined the SEC, would a B10 schedule have served them better? Very interesting to think about.
I know it's sour grapes but I really believe there's been a conspiracy against UF football dating back to the early 80's. In some way, shape or form that varies thru the years.
Personally I'd call it a bias more than an all out conspiracy. We have certainly been treated with a heavier hand by the powers that be than many of the other power programs for whatever reason. I also think there is a discrepancy as to how our program was covered during the spurrier and Meyer years given the relative passes that rogue programs like Nebraska, Miami, fsu and now Georgia have been given by the media. Do the media ever frame those Nebraska and Miami titles as tainted when they speak about their "storied" past?
This conference has never had our back, we’ve never been in the good ole boy network like UGA, Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn. I believe your conference backing you plays a big part in punishments handed down. If we’re up agains the NCAA, we are on our own. A weakened UF strengthens our conference rivals.
Yet people here still chant SEC and support SEC teams in bowl games. There was a time that made sense when the northern, Midwest and west coast bias from days of old when the pack 10, big 8 and big 10 ran college sports and major media but those days are long gone now especially with the expanded playoff format. To hell with the SEC
