True but as soon as someone like Burke, Mizell, or/and Wilson emerge to take the top off the defense and pressure off Pretty Ricky, that hopefully will help the passing game.
Him participating in baseball may actually keep him in shape and sharp during g the offseason. Russell Wilson attended MLB spring training during NFL offseasons. And the mechanics of baseball players actually help in the fine tuning of a QBs mechanics and footwork. Here are some excerpts from The linked article. "A lot of skills from one sport can translate to another. For instance, many of the mechanics for baseball players are similar for quarterbacks. No matter what baseball position is played, it's important to align the body with the target before throwing across the diamond. There's often not a lot of time available to out a base runner. This forces players to learn how to set their feet quickly or learn how to throw off balance." "Some of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game were drafted to play major-league baseball. Dan Marino was drafted in the fourth round by the Royals, the White Sox drafted Archie Manning in the third round and John Elway was a second-round draft pick by the Yankees. The Colorado Rockies drafted Michael Vick despite him not having played since the eighth grade." "Several current NFL quarterbacks were exceptional baseball players. Kyler Murray was the No. 9 overall selection in the 2018 MLB Draft. Russell Wilson attended multiple MLB spring training camps during NFL offseasons with both the Texas Rangers and New York Yankees. Patrick Mahomes was a stellar high-school baseball player and was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 2014 MLB Draft out of high school." Baseball Players Electrify as Quarterbacks
Max Brown is not anywhere near any of the guys you mentioned. Your talking about heisman trophy winner and several hall of famers. Max Brown is not a starter or a back up, he would need to dedicate more time not less if he were to be a contributor to the football team.
I'm not talking about him being our savior at QB we were talking about depth at the position for the season were we not? For that he can be a servicable 3rd string QB
You brought up all star quarterbacks as guys that made it work playing two sports in high school college. To your question about being a Serviceable third string quarterback I cannot answer that especially when the majority of his winter and spring will be spent on baseball
If Brown doesn't participate in Spring practice, I find it hard to believe that he'll ever be more than an afterthought at QB. In all likelihood, if Mertz and or Miller do anything at all in the Spring, Brown will either fall by the wayside altogether, or be relegated to a distant number three for the rest of his time at UF. Of course, if he turns out to be a great BB player, he will probably drop FB anyway. I like the kid and I think he has potential, but I'm not getting my hopes up one way or the other.
He He Will simply be for depth imo. Next year DJ will come in and probably be automatic#2 and maybe push for more reps toward the end of the year.
If that... not if he doesn't focus on FB early on. He probably has as much or more physical talent than the other two, but he's a "project" guy and if he isn't actively in the hunt from the get-go, he doesn't have much chance to ever do anything more than just be a body and even that is debatable.
his scholarship is for football (and he counts against the 85 counter). If he skips spring practice for baseball have to imagine the football staff doesn’t renew his scholarship (and he will have none for baseball since they are all taken).
That seems totally reasonable to me. I just keep seeing other posters here saying he's not going to be participating in Spring practice because of BB. And IMO, he can kiss any shot at ever earning playing time goodbye if he goes that route. I hope he gives FB a real shot, we need all the help we can get.
