I didn't make any judgement one way or the other whether choosing to keep opposing offense's off the field was right or wrong, for the record I believe it was a good decision. I corrected, and in your reply you tacitly agree, that it was a choice by the staff, not because the "defense couldn't get off the field." The numbers are what they are and they say the D was not on the field.
I can see a player saying something like this in the introductions one of these days: " Jackson High, American Heritage, IMG, Miami, University of Alabama"....
There goes that Marine, using logic again, can't have that around here. Need to toe the company line. For fun when it comes to getting off the field: 3rd down conversion against: UF 49th, LSU 122nd 4th down conversion against: UF 4th, LSU 55th Turnovers: UF 128th, LSU 109th TOP against: UF 9th, LSU 108th Play against: UF 9th, LSU 82nd Brian Kelly chose to try to outscore their opponents rather than grind clock because he had a Heisman QB who put up video game numbers. If that had been UF would anyone here be saying that BN should have tried to grind the clock more? No shot.
What's your point? Our defense was historically bad and our offense was not that bad. I'm sure your numbers would show you that as well. Trying to defend our defensive performance to make any kind of point ls useless. Of the three phases(off, def sp. team) offense was by far our best performing. Wasn't perfect but our offense scored enough points to win a few of those games we lost had we not given up more than we could score.
The point was the excuse that the D limited the offense's opportunities by not being able to get off the field is simply not true. The coaches chose to run the offense that way to keep the D off the field because the D was bad and I have said I agree with that approach. I've been chastised for wanting the offense to be even more aggressive in keeping the D off the field and not putting the game in their hands because they were so poor (see Mizzou game). Why must everything be one or the other? I wan't offense, defense and special teams to improve, and they all have room to improve. If I were to add how bad our D was in every single post in which I address the offense I would get banned for negativity.
Tbh, whether intended or not, nearly everything you post comes off as "a matter of factly" and negative.
I disagreed with the notion and tried to provide objective evidence to support why. The matter of fact approach was intentional because I was trying to use facts to support my position rather than come across as being emotional or confrontational. It's very difficult to convey that through text. Edit: typo's probably didn't help either.
The vagaries of youth. I can't wait until we make our way back to complementary football. We haven't seen it consistently since 2009.
Yes and no. This is the type of thing a good coach can turn into a positive for the team. Urban and Saban could, Kirby damn well can.
