I think NIL money will pull back a lot from these crazy numbers. Simply no ROI or lasting recognition for the big money donors.
13-0 and they want a raise. Not sure how much money their NIL has available for raises and newbs. The Wild West.
I'd guess half the portal we dismiss just on measurables, stats, etc. The remaining is cut drastically by situation, character, and whatever intangibles that can be determined. Other teams do it so the pool of desired players gets small and expensive.
While I do think you’re correct that ROI will rein it in a bit, NIL is effectively an auction-style “purchase” model. And economics has shown that the buyer tends to overpay in an auction (no matter the format of the auction). It takes one knucklehead bidder to mess it up for everyone.
Tells you everything you need to know… If we had a coach, we would probably pick up a pretty good player right here… Smart kid
This is a kid we could have had for sure, as I’m pretty sure we could be Kansas State… Or at least I think we should but I’ve been surprised a lot lately
Did you read the article? I'm in that thread. Dudes flakey. He has only went thru with 1 visit so far. He scheduled one with us knowing we didn't have a DL coach and then said he canceled because we didn't have a DL coach. All within a couple days. Also if you look at the transfer portal numbers from last year before and after ESD, the portal swells massively as even more kids hit the portal after. There's no reason to rush when the 1st set of bowl games just got played today. There will be more players from these bowl teams that will enter the portal.
How do you know we don't already have a coach? Harris was hired nearly a week before the news broke and even longer before UF "officially" announced it.
They had a 4 year junior playing QB for them, and we have a red-shirt freshman that last started a football game in high school. That's not even the same thing.
We look as if we lost a potential recruit who didn’t visit because as he said “ they don’t have a d line coach”.
I will say that Texas is hosting the # 1 Saftey transfer from Clemson this weekend along with X....Andrew Mukuba who is a Austin native recieved 3 CBs to Texas yesterday. Is playing time a factor for X. Something to think about.
This... pay the good ones and pay the ones you want to get/sign/transfer in... all the rest will take care of itself.
They think X is just making a courtesy call and he is still in the Gator camp. If we can somehow keep X and Hayes....huge.
He did seem very committed to the Gators. I wonder why all the other sites are 'balling him to Texas?
