Yep, that signing bonus is still tied to the entirety of the contract but even if he got a years worth of that contract for staying, it’s not worth the risk.

if you don’t know how to protect your $50 million quarterback in the NFL, you’re not playing a single down.

Nonsense..there are plenty of guys who come in to be receivers out of the backfield exclusively and arent asked to pick up anything. People can try to pick on Etienne's blocking all they want if it makes them feel better about losing probably one of the top 3 talents on the team. As a coach you can work on coaching up his deficiencies and/or work around them by putting that player in a position which takes advantage of what they do best. It happens all the time.

Chris didn’t progress much this year I didn’t think. I had higher hopes for him last year. Definitely a needed player. Rb doesn’t bother me much as we have others there. We aren’t winning it all next year and none of the guys leaving that were good would be here in 25 anyway. That should leave a chunck of change to spend elsewhere. We need oline desperately. send the turncoat money to get somebody to block for the running backs we do have and we will be better off anyway. Give Mertz some time to operate back there and bigger holes to run through for the backs we do have. Give me an edge rusher

You can’t even be a third down back if you can’t block. To me, it looked like lack of effort in blocking. Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State, all have good running backs and they can block. If you don’t think blocking keeps running backs off the field, I don’t know what to tell you. People were talking about it long before he left the team.

This was a topic long before Trevor entered the portal. That’s not just sour grapes. Almost everyone agrees that Trevor was the best pure runner on the team, but he was an undeniable liability in the passing game. Even with that deficiency, he received nearly half of the snaps and was the first rb on the field in several games. He also had some nagging injury that limited at least some of his snaps or he likely would have received closer to an exact even split or even a majority as it was.

He is so deficient the guy will have a first or second round grade in the NFL draft at years end... Everyone pointed to Richardsons short comings last year too and the guy gets picked top 5. When he gets coached up in the NFL he looks perfectly capable of doing all the things he couldnt do well at UF. Its on the coaches to develop the talent and put them in a position to blossom...not keep pounding the square peg in the round hole. I remember watching some little running back named Barry Sanders who wasnt a good blocker...he did OK...there are plenty of guys whose special talents meant more to the team than being a glorified offensive lineman. I mean should we laugh at the notion of Deion Sanders being a great cornerback since he wanted no part of tackling? Sorry there are ways to play to a players strength that dont involve pounding a square peg into a round hole repeatedly.

There’s no hiding the talent that EN has but that’s the reason he wasn’t probably getting more playing time. Average yards per Cary he’s not that much different than Johnson and Johnson can block a hell lot better. Barry Sanders may not have been an elite blocker, but he could block. ETN looks like he doesn’t even make the effort sometimes or avoids it. Lack of effort has nothing to do with coaching and surprise surprise the guy has no problem going to your rival.

Barry Sanders was almost never asked to block. The guy was asked to put pressure on the defense when he got on the field. Detroit had two plays they ran for him. Essentially they were here is the ball Barry...make them look silly and score...that was play one. Play two was here is the screen pass Barry...make them look silly and score...that was the other. He is hall of fame and using his talents as a blocker missed the point. Im sure the defense would beg for him to try and block Lawrence Taylor every down and be held back but any coach who used him that way would be an idiot. The defense had to react to him while he was on the field...in other words the offense dictated things to the defense which hasnt been done around here since Mullen left. Deion also is Hall of Fame and couldnt and didnt want to tackle anything but you know what you better not throw to that side of the field. Look I get it...Etienne had his short comings but its on the coaches to make that better and work with what he is capable of...

When you have Johnson with almost the same yards per Cary, if it’s a passing down, you put Johnson in. Barry was the most fun guy to watch run, but he also led the league in negative yardage every single year he played. But yes, Barry would block. He may not have been the best, but he did not run away from it. Barry always seem to be a team player to me. He stayed with the Lions his entire career and he never ran away to go find an easier road.

AR is broken because he did things in the NFL that people complained about him not being willing to do here. When he was playing, he looked to me like he was piling up losses, like he’s done throughout his career.

Didnt run away from blocking is probably a kind way to describe it. I will say many players spent their whole career with one or two teams so thats a different world today. Instead of busting up his body with no chance of a championship in Detroit he didnt run away to find a better team...he just hung it up in his prime. So lets discuss Deions shortcomings and why he never should see the field because he couldnt tackle.

OK...there is a reason the Colts were drafting in the top 5...if you thought our offensive line was bad you didnt watch the Colts. His surrounding talent was probably one of the worst in the NFL so blaming him for losses isnt quite fair. There are 21 other players on the field who make a team.

The same people who thought he was worth a top 5 pick also picked all those other guys, right? They probably thought they were talented too.

Well if ETN wants to bail and go to somewhere like ole Miss or Missouri where he will have a good year, then leave for the draft, then so be it. Lame as hell but it could be worse.

Now if he wants to go to UGA then absolutely he was never a gator. And anybody who transfers to FSU is just dead to me.

So there are different levels to transferring out for me. But two schools are just absolutely unacceptable, and I don’t even hate UGA, most my family is from Georgia lol. I’m weak on the Georgia hatred for this fanbase and it’s still just unacceptable

You can hide Dion‘s deficiencies with his elite talent and berries also. ETN should not be mentioned in the same breath as those two. Perhaps the greatest cover corner and the greatest runner ever. Dion couldn’t tackle at all and Barry led the league in negative yardage every single season that he played. They both had major deficiencies along with elite talent.
