Forget everything I ever said about the Boise WR. Julian Fleming is in the portal which: A. Makes me hate the portal and B. Someone is dropping a bag on this kid because he would be the #1 at Ohio St next year. I hope that someone is us.
@bobbybaker86 what's going on at OSU? And these departures surely should help with Smith no? Here are the current players who have entered the portal. This kind of is the opposite of those who said player transfer because they want to win. OSU has one loss and they losing a TON. of talent
doubt someone is dropping a big bag. He has disappointed (also had an injury) and was surpassed by other WRs in his class and younger guys. He is looking for a fresh start.
Like everyone else, OSU has to make room for their upgrades. It just so happens that the kids they process out are much higher ranked than most schools because they recruit at a high level.
5* QB1 McCord, 5* WR Julian Fleming, RB Evan pryor, Surely there are other player who were "dead weight" if you will thatvcould have been cut.? The other 2 QB's on their roster have a combined 14 competitions, the top 3 RB's are gone, T.Henderson is a Jr. But will probably go pro the other 2 are seniors. That leaves Pryor and Hayden as the only remaining RB. Top 3 pass catchers all gone, Emeka and Harrison Jr. Are surely going pro and TE stover (#2 in receptions) is a senior. Crazy portal shenanigans
Terrified of who we still might lose to the portal, but all this activity makes me feel less like the sky is falling regardless of who we lose. It is now just common that you are going to lose players. Some you push out, some leave, and many are surprising. Free agency, with no contracts, and no salary cap isn’t a good business model.
Well, make them employees, let them form a union and make a deal in a collective bargaining agreement. It's the only way to control this. Any legislation to limit NIL will be shot down by US Supreme Court.
How does that work ? Is it a fact , (even though the post is void of any facts) or is it your belief? Actual facts and your beliefs are not necessarily the same.
That won’t fix it. NIL is third party, can’t be capped, and isn’t going away even if you pay salaries. Third party money is too deeply entrenched in the college game. If you put them on a salary, you could get them on contracts, which may allow you to limit their movement some. Who knows how that plays out in the court though.
Presumably that would fix it because then the athletes would have contracts with the school and not be able to just portal around at will
True. But I would think it would have a better chance in the courts if they were employees. Aren't there some professions that can restrict you working for someone else once your employed? Or it can be a condition of the CBA. BTW, none of this bothers me. I cheer for the Gators. If the names on the jerseys change so be it. They change every few years anyway.
I edited my post and added that in. You going to give everyone a four or five year contract to lock them up though? Will make it tough to keep the roster under 85. I also imagine you’ll have a bunch of litigation over it. You’ll still have to get the high school kids locked up, and the top spenders will still work around any salary cap with NIL money. *right now the kids have the upper hand and have no reason to agree to any kind of cba either. Why would they agree to something that limits their movement and earning potential?
