Getting awfully hard to keep interest. Still watch for now but can't see ever being as vested a fan as I was before.
You need to look at average star ranking of incoming HS athletes. This year we have quite a few top 100 players. Meaningful difference between top 100 and top 300 as well look at how many top 100 in each of those classes. Facilities were just moved into. This is first class with new facilities, nicer apartments, … Think eyewash does make a difference. This is only second real class of recruits. Most of coaches did not recruit Florida. Relationship building takes time. Can’t keep hs ing HC getting fired during the year. Must give them time to build a program in their image. Muschamp, Mac, Mullen all fired during the season. Stability in HC and staff important
I am finally convinced that Mullen being let go was a good decision after seeing his comment . He should just shut up as anyone who will look at a detailed analysis of the recruiting rankings after accounting for non-qualifiers will agree that he was poor in recruiting.
Losing Amaris would easily put us outside of the top 10. No way you lose Mack Waller Nasir Amaris And say we are # 6 or 7. Losing 4 players of that caliber is a major loss for the class. 20% of class gone. This was the class all pointed to so finishing up outside of the top 5 would be puzzling. Billy has everything and then some as to what he asked for. Billy keeps Amaris and adds Mincey, Gregory Smith and Boireau and we will call it a day and a #5 or 6 class. Add to that 5-6 big adds in the portal at: WR- 1 impact guy DT-1 DE- 1 good edge rusher Ol- 2 including an impact OT Safety- 1 And we are rolling. The Slackerman kid from Penn could be my 1 DT we need right now. Picking up an OT that starts day one, a receiver that takes Ricky’s spot, and a true edge that can get us 7-8 sacks are big asks but if we are going to compete and win we gotta fill those spots.
The real rub now is, how many of those classes that Mullen actually recruited made it onto campus, how many were takes by the staff just to bolster the ranking. They knew most of those guys with bad grades or character issues would never take a snap at Florida. Yet they sure made the rankings look better. The two aren’t even in the same Galaxy together to be compared. That being said, does Napier need to lock this thing down absolutely. Do I think he will. Yes. Dj Lagway is the pin holding it all together.
So he blames the lack of facilities for his lack of quality recruiting? Lol... He might be slightly right, but you have understand one thing that he does not. Recruiting season is all year-round.
Perception vs reality was exactly what was wrong with Mullen and his recruiting. Perception at the time of the signings might have been top 10 top 12 but the reality as we all know was that most of our recruiting "wins" were desperate takes to fill the class and bump the ranking. How many times do people have to rehash Arjei Henderson, Black, wardrick Wilson, etc etc
@JBudDavis has some interesting data/takes he has posted recently. Can look at his timeline if interested in more dives into recruiting impact.
Get Evans from aTm and Grimsley from Bama and Boireau and Mincey and the sense of loss is not so big. All of those are very realistic. I like our receivers but we still should have gotten a headliner this year.
I think the Wake HC is rightfully disappointed that his starting QB can be rented for a year by the highest bidder after 4 years at Wake and then celebrated by ND as a departing senior
