One of my favorite players of recent years. He played with pride and always repped UF with real class.
I know a few college President's I would like to perform some dentistry on. Boys from Brazil variety.
Best news in a long while! Thank you Ricky — may your decision work out marvelously for you and Florida Football!
No doubt. It totally decimated Michigan football and North Carolina basketball. Bring in the dummies and get back to basics.
It's an interesting question without good data to analyze. But I'll speak for myself. I began going to games in 1978 when I was in junior high. I have two degrees from UF and I absolutely loved my years in Gainesville. I, like many alums, have a child who had significantly more credentials to be admitted to the university than I did, but was only offered the online admission (which seems like a way for the university to get full tuition for inferior access to the experience, though I admit usually leads to the student transitioning I to the "normal" university experiece eventually). The opaque nature of admissions and how his application didn't gain acceptance while many similar ones did left me pretty indifferent about the future success of the school. He went to a great smaller school out of state, obtained a great education academically, holistically, and personally and now is outperforming most of the state school grads he was hired on with at a consulting firm in Tampa. The end result is he's a casual UF fan, will never give a nickel (nor will I), and likely won't care whether his progeny attend. One can argue that his possible passion will be replaced by that of whoever attended instead of him, but that's a prediction with zero data to support it at this point.
Brilliant post, thanks for sharing this. Def puts it into perspective. IDK if you have, but I suggest clicking that tweet and opening it and reading the replies. Interesting perspectives
I noticed this about 20 years ago. Good kids from state of Fla applying to UF and getting denied, so they go to fsu or UCF. Those universities are growing their instate alumni base. Our base is aging out. UF would rather take a foreign exchange student or an out of state student with excellent transcripts. Problem is those students don’t care about athletics. I heard of a change recently, if your grandparents are graduates of UF and you live out of state you can get the instate tuition price to attend. Not sure if that will help if you can’t get accepted.
Student body is a hell of a lot different in many ways. Certainly good from an academic aspect, but…it was just different. Did a tour with our oldest and my wife and I were a little surprised. Not the same experience we had.
