Sadly, Mexico Beach to St. George Island (Forgotten Coast) is the last great stretch of beaches in Florida to experience the influx of people and over development. It's happening. The Big Bend (Nature Coast) east of there will follow but with mostly marsh instead of beaches it will be different.
My grandad built one of the first houses on St George, so I remember no bridge, no paved roads, no stores, virtually no people. It was fabulous. Dog Island still has that general feel. But compared to everywhere else SGI is still very rustic and undeveloped.
We’ve vacationed there and it’s nice they have no above ground power lines or lights. Pensacola beach has done well to at least limit the condos. Pickens and the stretch between us and Navarre is almost still completely untouched so we have about twenty miles of natural barrier island still.
If you take away all the neon, black lights, and baggy clothes I'm pretty sure its the guy on the left.
Now TS Idalia with winds at 40 mph and is forecasted to become Hurricane with winds at 100 mph with Landfall between Tampa and Panama City on Wednesday.
The plantation war is interesting. About The St. George Plantation Owner's Association Last year when I was there on just about every Street there were new homes under construction.
No doubt, sure would save the rest of us on insurance if it was the entire coast. At least we have twenty miles preserved with no houses.
Pre plantation we used to go to the cut on old turpentine roads....of course you could also drive on the beach back then too
