I've learned never to underestimate what's possible in big-time sports when money is involved, but I couldn't imagine this ever happening. The Swamp is an iconic venue, and it's hard to fathom tearing it down until it's literally falling apart.

You asked how much to build a new, 85k capacity stadium. Assuming you’ll want it to be state of the art, and you’re going to have to demolish whats there, you’re going to spend a bunch of money.

I’ll be surprised if the reno they’re planning now isn’t closer to 10 figures by the time it’s all said and done.

Yeah, SoFi was $5B....obviously that is the extreme of everything, but I don't think there is any way you can get what you want for under a billion at least

Dang, don't know if I could handle losing SOS / BHG Stadium, even by getting a shiny new one.

Love that Danny was (briefly) benched in the season opener of a Heisman/Natty season.

it would really suck but like we learned in WWII you don't win a war (facilities arms race) with old weapons.

New traditions are great (Tom Petty song... ) but they can live side by side with the old ones just fine. Don't burn the house down... fix the damned thing.

See I'm 40 and thats where being a mix of a little old school and a little new school is conflicting. I like tradition along with shiny new objects. I'd like to keep the original stadium 1st and foremost but I'd be lying if I said there wouldn't be a ton of benefits to getting the completely newest college Stadium in the country.

Yes, I totally agree but the locations and the cost of a new stadium would be over a billion dollars to make it right. I would hate to get a new stadium the sucks... becasue we didn't really have the money to make a better stadium than the one we already have.

Never met a Miami fan that regretted leaving the Orange bowl. Have you?

As for the Swamp... The stadium as it sits is NOT the reason it's not sold out as often. The stadium is NOT the reason we aren't recruiting better. The stadium is NOT the reason our recent performance has not been up to snuff.

I get the feeling there are a lot of firms just dying to get their beak wet and move on to the next monstrosity and sink fans and the University with a steep bill.

I feel if Strickland is even having these conversations its because he's willing to pony up the money to do it right. Maybe he's thinking it's possible he might not achieve what they are wanting with just the proposed upgrades. If anything I think if true it signals that UF may finally be willing to spare no expense for making UF football the best in the nation. First ill take starting with winning,

Or/and he's not really wanting to reduce seating to any real degree. He knows that the rake of the stadium and the number of fans in the stands makes The Swamp so damned loud... it's a huge advantage for our football team.

Stricklin cannot mess with what makes The Swamp so feared... and great at the same time. It's all about the number of fans. This is also why he's looking into cutting 180,000 sq-ft of office space in the stadium... including his tiny office in it.

There are so many ways to make The Swamp better... even without messing with the seating. Start with a good hard pressure wash and then add some slip-free WHITE paint to the steps and that alone would make The Swamp better.
