Yeah it’s a slippery slope - the whole free speech thing. I know I could have been fired any time for going public with negative information about the corporation I worked for. Understandably, because I was a representative of that corporation. Well, we’re representatives of the University of Florida on this board, whether we actually went to UF or not. We attach ourselves to Gator Nation. It’s one thing for some clown on the street to carry a sign saying ‘Florida sucks’ — it’s his right, and who cares? But this board is representative of the most serious fans in Gator Nation, and is managed as such. We are a reflection of UF and Gator Nation and with that comes responsibility to not do harm to our school and our team. The mods certainly can’t have someone arrested for anything said here (possibly short of a direct threat of violence or harm), but they certainly have the privilege to ban anyone they choose, or shut the whole thing down if they see reason to do that. Recruits, players, their families, friends, and maybe even some HS coaches read stuff on this board. Bashing UF and our coaches and players here is harmful. Banning a troll or otherwise harmful poster is sometimes appropriate
true but i'll tell you what....DJ posting that Clemson edit on his page for Mother's Day, them taking one of the top WR's from the state, getting a top 5 LB outta UGA country....watch out for Dabo. He's recruiting with a vengeance so far.
*skink got his post in before me, but shares a lot of the same sentiment* I’m not a big fan of censorship. If it isn’t allowed here, it still is somewhere else. I do wish more people would realize the role they actually play. Trying to look at things positively and talk about our teams, coaches, school, admin, etc, in a positive light doesn’t really hurt anything. Constantly talking about firing coaches, firing athletic directors, presidents, shitting on our golf and tennis natty’s, etc, only hurts us. The majority of us need to realize that we play a negligible role in getting coaches fired, or getting any admin fired. They aren’t getting fired because some asshole spends his every waking moment bitching and moaning on twitter or some sports forum. They get fired because they aren’t doing a good job. The people who actually play a role in the firing know when someone isn’t doing a good job. They’re going to make the moves, whether some nobody tells them to or not. It’s fine for you to not be happy with a losing season. It’s fine for you to not attend games. If everyone stops attending, the people who make moves will know that changes need to be made. Really, they know this whether you choose to attend or not. For the majority of us, our opinions matter very little. If you want to force change, you get a job running things, or you do it with your wallet, not crying on twitter. When you can personally afford to pay for buyouts, you get a seat at the table. Running down our program online only makes things worse, and makes it harder for the team you want to see be successful to actually be successful. Why waste so much time being miserable when you being miserable is likely to have no positive effect, but IS likely to have a negative effect? If it really makes you that miserable, find something else to occupy your time. I wish we’d win all of our games in every sport we offer, but I try to support our teams even when we’re losing. It’s going to happen. We’re going to lose some games, and I have no control over that. I move on, and hope we win the next one. I understand I have no control over who gets hired or fired, so I try not to dwell on it. If I get to a point where I can’t find anything to look forward to, I find another way to occupy my time.
I guess I don't understand what the takeaway from this is supposed to be. If none of what we say here matters (and I agree it doesn't), then why does it matter if people are negative? If a Gator fan saying "I don't like losing to Vanderbilt" has no impact on decision makers, what is the harm of that post? If none of what we say matters, why should any of us be here at all? What's the point of positive or negative commentary from fans? I mean, this logic takes you to a really nihilistic place really quickly. It's good that we mostly have an environment here where people can be critical. Critical posts can be smart or stupid or somewhere in between, and if they're stupid then they can attacked as such. If posters are constantly miserable and making everyone else miserable, then others will adjust to that and call them out for it -- I've seen it happen. I think that's a much better solution than "Crack down on negativity" or "People should just be happy all the time."
I wasn’t advocating for a “crack down on negativity”. I’m advocating for some self reflection. Does the negative outlook on everything help or hurt the program? If everything you see happening in the program seems negative, then why not look for a more positive place to spend your time? I get that people aren’t going to be happy all the time, but some folks sure seem miserable all the time, and that isn’t healthy either. I think constant negativity around the program does matter. Recruits, recruit’s parents/families, recruit’s hs coaches, our future possible coaches, and possible future staff all see that. Why would anyone want to go to such a negative environment? Trying to be positive surely isn’t going to hurt us on any of those fronts. I can appreciate a difference between critical and negative. I can also see that some posters will put a negative spin on almost anything, even if there is a positive or even neutral way to look at things. Some people just flat out never have anything nice to say. For those people, I don’t understand why they don’t just find something more enjoyable to do. We all have our moments. I say negative things too. I just try not to live in that place. Some people seem to only want to live in that place.
This is a monster Miss. not negativity just the truth. Billy doesn’t pull this one back and this loss hurts.
Clemson doesn't loose many kids once they commit. Nor do they generally let them keep taking visits. I'm curious if we'll see either of these WR's on campus.
