I had heard several times over the short period KC was here that he wasn't a great recruiter. Now I don't know what that was based on but we now have the complete opposite narrative being pushed by some fans. Not a swipe at anyone in particular but I'm always curious as to how perceptions of position coaches, analysts, recruiters etc are earned. I used to follow football and recruiting much more intently than I do now and yet I could never tell you specifically why so and so position coach was good or why another wasn't...
I think it has more to do with the head coach. Everybody can recruit under Saban and nobody can recruit under Mullen. Of course the coaches need to be able to recruit, but without the head coaches influence, it’s a lost cause.
How is Clemson gonna feel that a commit is taking other visits or have they eased off that stance of not allowing commits to visits other places?
Watching Gators Breakdown yesterday. Dave mentioned that last year during the June recruiting weekend, UF recieved no commits that weekend but four (4) of those attendees did ultimately sign with UF, including Collins. Point being these kids want to take their visits. Personally I think the old "commit now, take no more visits" that Dabo/Clemson implemented so successfully is more of a thing of the past.
unless i missed it, he hasn’t committed to Clemson yet but all signs point to them being way out in front. I believe the last few cycles that their have been some Clemson commits who have taken visits elsewhere but yea ima wait and see how things play out before being doom and gloom
Now, on the DOWN-SIDE, while we all understand that it's early and kids want to take visits, it seems that Gator Podcasters and Supporters are conveniently ignoring the fact that we seem stuck on 8 and with the exception of On3 have been steadily falling in the rankings. Sooooo - some (TOP) teams seem to be signing ALOT, more kids, 2x the number UF has committed, and they aren't signing just 2 and 3 stars. So what gives? As of today: UGA 17 ND 18 MICHIGAN 17 LSU 16 PENN STATE 17 All of which are ranked ahead of UF of course. Just saying.
Agree Bobby, it's silly to be all rah rah for a kid until he decides on another school and suddenly he is a bum, a low life, stupid, dump parents etc. These kids, like the rest of society, are social media obsessed. While many say that prospects are not influenced in their decision making by social media sites, I don't buy that. I think it does, how important social media is to each individual commits decision is unknowable. But I'm glad GC moderators try to cut off the vitriol and complaining as much as possible. As a fan base we should, grin and bear it when a kid decides to go elsewhere.
Yessss... And one NEVER knows what will eventually pans out with a recruit over a 12 to 14 month period? He signs with another school... Promises made by his new coaches don't come true? Gets ticked off by his position coach? (This is ONE reason why we have two OL coaches.) After a year, he takes another look at Florida and the great, honest visit he had there... Voila!
We need to watch what we post here too. I wish the mods would crack down harder on posters who seem driven to run down our team and coaches for not delivering to their absurd expectations and demands. All they’re doing is hurting our team, and clearly some are either trolls or just as destructive as trolls.
Same. I was just thinking that the guy who signed Calvin ridley and Jerry Juedy (stole him from UF BTW) isn’t going to put up with a WR coach who can’t recruit or hire one that can’t. https://247sports.com/Coach/Billy-Napier-241/AllTimeRecruits/
That was my first thought when Sammy brown or whatever his name is committed to Clemson instead of his hometown team. Thank god
Well this was not unexpected he will not visit UF , the difference between programs that can close on targets and one the can’t …. Yet
By ‘crack down’, do you mean censor? I would be careful with that. Just because you may not want to hear it may not mean it shouldn’t be discussed.
Exactly. This doesn't help with "taking back the state" but it's early so we'll see how things play out. Gotta close on talent that's close to Gainesville that we're after
