I’ll take “Things I have heard UF fans say about all UF head football coaches before they were fired”, Alex. I kid! Kind of. He may be a great evaluator. But can he speed up that process to get us more players that he likes? Cuz we may be missing some due to the length of the process.
Our offer came 3 days after Notre Dame’s where he is expected to be penciled in as a starter. He was set to visit on Monday.
I see your long post and I raise you a long post CBN has had 1 full recruiting cycle. He was on the job for just over a month in the 1st cycle while still landing a 5 star DB in that class. And can you show me links from these "several" reporters that confirm we are the only team in the nation to ask for film? I've heard a player or 2 supposedly quoted as saying this but obviously 5 star Filisaime and Lagway weren't bothered. Big Camreon Jackson, O'Cyrus torrence, kamryn Waites, Former 5* OL Goodwin, the Huge OL from Baylor that transferred, the Bama OL transfer, RB M. Johnson, the LB's we got this off season, the list goes on and on. I have read a plethora of quotes and interviews from recruits and transfers and have not seen anywhere except that one OLinemen (i believe it was) who bitched about the video So I think that whole story is a bit overblown. CBN has basically modeled his coaching to a large degree from his me Nick Saban. And so far his Evals have been on point. Hell his former DB Amos just transferred to Bama when no major program gave him a chance before. Same goes with Torrence who was rated one of the best O linemen in college and was just drafted. And what about montrell Johnson, he proved without a doubt he is a SEC RB but no one seen that but CBN? You can't fault the guys Evaluations unless you can give me examples of where he failed in that dept over and over again. And also I didn't say the Rhode island guy can't play or doesn't show potential but where is the proof he can compete with SEC competition? Can he ? Possibly but we won't know just yet, and a unknown commodity does not equal a "must get" player IMO. those other teams you metioned ,some may have a bigger need at DB then we do. I feel like we could use some more Big uglies on either side of the line of scrimmage , a 2nd experienced QB in the class, and edge/LB, of even a quality special teams player that may be able to flip the game. Also when was the last time we had a Blue chip ratio like the one we had last cycle? and this one so far is looking great too (94.04 player avg.) with half of our commits in the top 50 nationally (including 2 5*'s)
him being a former RI player means nothing if the STAFF offered him and was set to host him on an OV next week. That means THEY wanted him. If they felt comfy about what they already had, they wouldn’t have wasted time going after him. and it’s not that they didnt get him, it seems like this staff moves a bit slower in the portal than they do with HS recruiting. That’s what irks me with the staff at times.
This is now the opposite complaint many had with the previous staff. Before it was we dont recruit HS kids well enough and relied on the unsustainable portal method. It seems like we're damned if we do damned if we don't. To me if CBN keeps up this Blue chip ratio he has going it won't be long before out talent is on par with the current elites regardless of how he does it. But none of that screams "stubbornness or stuck in his ways " but moreover a method he believes in. And that I like personally.
We would also have had a better chance if his HS coach and primary mentor wasn't an ND graduate and former pro. An Athletic article was strong on the ND connection.
I would think with good reason. There’s a reason why each guy is in the portal instead of still on the team they initially selected. Makes sense to do the ole due diligence thing before committing a scholarship to a potential problem
im ALL IN on Billy, have been and will be until he proves he’s not capable but he can do some head scratching stuff from time to time. I’m not mad at missing out on Carter either btw
Exactly People can find fault in anything if that’s all they’re looking for. Lots of half-empty glasses around here
College Recruiting Do’s And Don’ts From College Coaches - EXACT Sports Thought this article was interesting, apparently most coaches do require a video of their play sent in, it just sounds like Billy wants real footage and not an edited "Highlight" video Send An Athlete Highlight Video Most College coaches require a player highlight video, so try to give them a professionally edited highlight video. You can learn how to shoot an excellent highlight video yourself and continually update college coaches on any athletic achievements. Be sure to alternate your highlights, keep the final video edit to less than five minutes, and only show your best plays!
Was about to commit to ND when other offers came from LSU, UF, …. Portal transfer that was looking to start. Unlikely to start at UF unless an injury occurred. ND has opportunity to start reportedly. I’m not sure he would be a take for me on the UF roster with 2 years of eligibility. This upcoming class has an opportunity to be foundational for UF’s future. Don’t want a committed spot for longer than one year.
Starting with the 2023 class, I love the quality of the high school commits. I just think we needed more of them.
Are these “multiple reporters” (if you can even call them that) reconfirming each other about one instance like they normally do? One guy says something with an anonymous source, and the rest all jump on the bandwagon and regurgitate it repeatedly? I’ve only seen the video request thing about two kids. One was a hs qb in the transition class and one was a transfer kid in this class. Both seemed to think pretty highly of themselves and valued themselves a lot higher than I did. IIRC, the transfer discussed in this class did not have nearly as much game film as you’re suggesting either. Both seemed like players we can live without. Are you sure they’re asking every kid for these videos? Not just kids they actually want to see specific film on?
