Corey Raymond better be one of the three assistants making over $1M. He’s the only assistant coach I trust right now in terms of elite recruiting and elite on-field coaching.
don’t think he is. I read he got a $30,000 raise after taking over entire secondary. Something like $750,000 total. Raymond should be at 1 million with Armstrong at 750,000 based off of experience and industry value and success. Though not common for a subordinate to be making more than a manager it does happen. Plus, I think Raymond holds additional titles like associate or assistant head coach. I am bullish on Armstrong but first unproven Toney and now unproven Armstrong getting paid a lot after accomplishing very little in very little time period. Not a fan of that salary strategy.
Yeah Raymond makes about a quarter million more than Gonzalez (who's at 500k even), so it does feel like those three coaches are a good representation of where Billy's head is at. Rob Sale made $1mil in '22 as offensive coordinator and, oddly, Sean Spence commanded a million as well as co-defensive coordinator to Toney. Billy G's resume is the most comparable on this staff to Raymond's and yet he's been thrown a lifeline/second chance of sorts at a premiere program. Armstrong at $1.1 mill. Rob Sale $1mill (or 1.1 mill in 23?) Sean Spence $1 mill (or 1.1 mill in 23?) Raymond $755k Gonzalez $500k The Sean Spence one is the one that jumps out to me. It shows that Billy puts a PREMIUM on coordinator responsibilities (nd Spence brought in a terrific class in the trenches last season recruiting wise). But it also shows that Raymond is slightly underpaid? And that Billy G really wanted this gig.
Well, keep in mind Trask couldn't beat Frank's out per coaches and only got the chance due to Frank's injury. Many of us thought Trask was way better than Frank's before the injury, but coaches focus on one trait (Frank's arm) missed out on the total package of Trask. Could be similar with this kid not beating out Emory.
No way in heck we or the Aggies should sniff the top 25 preseason. This ranking is to get clicks from huge alumni bases.
