Yes! He lost his pants running a long TD against Georgia Tech in the 1967 Orange Bowl game. I think the run was from scrimmage and in excess of 90 yards! Great player and if memory serves me correctly played several years for LA Rams.
Putting DJ on that list is interesting. I must have missed what all went down at Maryland. Beside his summer-football trainer (usually the strength and conditions coach) causing the death of a player.
Larry visited my Jr HS school when I was in the seventh grade. He was a friend of the family of my history teacher, Mr. Milton, who was also from Mcclenny. He just seemed like a really great person and couldn't have been nicer to the kids. You could definitely tell that he was a Gator to the marrow of his bones. I recall that he still walked with a bit of a limp due to a knee injury he sustained during his playing days at UF. A great memory of a great Florida Gator.
He did indeed. George Allen called him the best FB he ever coached. Larry was a quiet fella and his nickname was "Silent Smith" as I recall.
How else are they gonna get the moment in? You know, their special moment that everybody not only does (of course making it not special) but also does in the same exact way?
is it bad that I still have scar tissue because i saw he from tuscaloosa and thought “ we wasting our time, he Bama bound” but saw he wasnt a top 100 kid and felt better about him??? Lol
For me Durkin is the worst of the bunch. Guy shouldn't be anywhere NEAR a football program. At any level. Absolute SCUM
A kid died under his watch at Maryland. A lot of nasty rumors came out about the program after the death. Things that happened a lot back in the 70’s, but stuff that everyone knows you can’t do nowadays. Withholding water and similar treatments. Don’t remember all of it, but you can look it up if you like. *disclaimer* I don’t know how much of it is true, but there was a lot of rumors circulating when he was fired.
