I think everyone is already saying that. The frustration is it is worse than the NFL. At least they have parameters to operate in, with rules & guidelines and a governing body to ensure those rule’s & guidelines are followed. What we have is Tombstone in the pre Wyatt Earp era. It’s ridiculous.

Agreed, it is much worse than the NFL.

Fans on these boards see it and will state the obvious, but it's frustrating when talking heads on TV carry on with the amateurism farce.

 

Always been a much bigger college fan than nfl fan. Right now nfl looking more attractive than college to me.

Thank you for a thoughtful reply. I certainly appreciate your thoughts about getting "3 for 1" for the money.

But we only signed 20 out of HS.

We have a great avg score but Florida needs depth to compete with the SEC leaders.

Another problem: The state was LOADED with HS talent this year. UFs top ranked Florida kid was ranked 21st by most services.

IF one counts Texas and Oklahoma UF would be 7th in SEC recruiting this year or thereabouts?

I know Rome was not built in a day. But given 6-7, a 3 game losing streak and Bowl embarrassment, it's really important for Billy to recruit really well. For the record, I am all in with CBN and strongly believe UF WILL have a top 10, maybe even a top 5 class next cycle.

Neverthless, If Will Miles is to be believed, the recruiting metrics associated with Playoff teams participation suggest that CBN really needs to pick it up a notch recruiting wise, because metrics show UF will NOT be participating, at least not in a 4 team playoff. I understand of course that all those metrics change with a 12 team playoff.

 

Still a lot of time left for the ‘23 class. Still another hs signing period. We aren’t done.

 

And also another portal window in the spring.

 

true…but most leaving after spring is because they were not good enough to start at their current school, losing out on a gig during spring practice. Doesn’t bode well for getting any instant impact guys.

 

There are practically no highly rated players left, who would we even sign? Caden Jones, 3* OT, is probably the best player we have a chance with and he's been trending away.

We haven't even been in the conversation for any other remaining players that would move the needle at all.

Appreciate the response. I think you and I are a lot closer on things, minus a detail here or there.

I guess what I’m trying to convey is I don’t think there is anyone (myself included) that don’t understand, long term, classes like this will not have us competing for championships annually. Just about everyone would agree with that. But this is just one class. And it was a pretty good one …and certainly an improvement, over our last 8 classes.

In the new NIL era and the lack of oversight that came with it, I think everyone is still trying to figure it out and how to make it work. For better or worse, we have taken the stance of spreading it around and taking care of existing players and not blowing our wad on 3 or 4 highly ranked top 50 guys so we can stick it to a rival on Twitter. I have to agree with the position we’ve taken.

Now if we had $40m to play with instead 20, I’m sure it would be a different story.

Literally word for word what I have been saying since our bowl disaster last Saturday. If Napier goes 6-7 again next year, he enters 2024 sitting on the hottest seat imaginable.

It is time to show progress. End of story.

So, are you saying that we won’t sign any more hs players? Or that we won’t sign any that make you happy?

 

We need a handful of portal guys too. Can’t fill all the spots with hs kids.

 

How much room do those schools have left? I know we have at least 7-8 spots and can probably sign a few extra counting on some spring attrition.

 

It would be nice for our fans to actually face reality and let Napier have five years.
