Fair enough. I think we are generally on the same side on this but may disagree on some minutia. I believe Bama did their major upgrades in 2013. Saban came in buying talent at unprecedented levels before that. Facilities are definitely a piece of the puzzle but nothing trumps money. Miami has shit Facilities, no on campus stadium and a shit GameDay atmosphere and yet one guy comes in with unlimited pockets and here we are.

Because that's the minimum ante to even sit at the big-boy table right now. UF will pursue an excellent program and thankfully has the means to modernize the necessary infrastructure, but the underhanded stuff that goes on just isn't going to be sanctioned by admin willfully acting deaf and blind when it comes to football.

UF very much likes its academic ascension and the integrity angle. It just is what it is.

I agree. I think we are seeing a culmination of a lot of factors that progressed through the last several coaches.

I imagine regularly getting to the playoffs (especially now) is an expectation and very attainable for UF (and be even easier with Michi's schedule). Just don't expect UF to endorse pulling out all the stops like some other schools to lock down annual to 3-5 recruiting classes which will lead to top 4 seeds.

I’m a Napier fan but I see at least a four year rebuild. The thing I worry about is does the noise get so loud and so widespread that he isn’t provided that opportunity.
Personally I believe NIL is at least an more open, and believe it or not honest approach to recruiting. It has been difficult to have much optimism with the old under the table model. Of course if UF is unwilling to spend market price, (and yes all markets fluctuate) then I agree with the OP… it won’t change the dynamics of the last 10-12 years.
I’m a Gator fan for life, I’d watch them play Division 3 football, but everyone isn’t that hardcore, and honestly that’s okay… it is after all their time and resources.
The one question I do have (probably off topic) is where has Ruiz been, why now. Miami demonstrated that they were not adverse to the old system. Why the sudden willingness on his part to come up with seemingly unlimited financial backing for UM.

It was under the table before so he couldn't take credit publicly. I imagine this is a vehicle for him to become more well known while making Miami relevant again. Doubt he alone spends this kind of money under the table without a significant financial benefit

It's not All doom and gloom we did literally just land 2 5 star quarterbacks in the last month that's your building blocks for your future.

It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint. A transcendent QB speeds it up, but short of that and we're looking at 2025 as the year that should realistically tell the tale. But the nature of the beast is that he might not be around that long.

Now he can have his ego publicly fed as the program savior. Hence the amount of time he spends on Twitter.

Still coached him. I was impressed with the work he did while he was here. Now he's with prime time at Colorado.

The noise already got loud midseason this year.

I'm not saying the majority of our fan base are sick in the head, but we've (as a whole) have grown so increasingly desperate for a good program.

I grew up in the era of Spurrier. My family reserved SEC championship game tickets before the season. We expected wins every year. After the brief Zook years, we got back to fun times. From 2006-2009, we were the cream of the crop.

We didn't just get passed by Alabama, but Georgia, Clemson, post-Stoops Oklahoma, and we're in the verge of getting passed over by Tennesse, Kentucky, and FSU. We see how Miami is having a strong year recruiting, and to be honest, it's not that encouraging.

It's just misstep after misstep, mistake after mistake. I think the fan base is getting desperate and we're a real risk of turning into Auburn, or old Tennessee.

The real problem Napier is facing is that the roster hasn't really turned over with strong contributors since 2019. Mullen brought in a bunch of guys with question marks, and very few have paid off.

As far as Ruiz, the NIL broadened the number of people with access to the game. Before, or was a con only a few knew how to play without getting caught. Enter a billionaire fan who wants to be felt.

Will be keep going as much as he does? Not sure, but their coach is mid in both prep and game day. He needed the PAC10 with the Nike money and that talent. If the roster doesn't turn over like Ruiz thinks it should, perhaps he starts using that money to pressure the administration to get someone else?

Either way, he's just another guy we have to deal with like Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia.

Either way, we have a lot more issues to deal with than losing 5-6 players

I understand that possibility, but if he was it darn sure wasn’t very effective.
I think you are exactly right with the last part… he is not doing this strictly because of an unfaltering love for UM.

Oh I wasn't implying he was involved when it was under the table. Maybe a donor but definitely not like this. I don't think i was clear when I wrote that.

Yes he coached Pitts the year of his break out year. And yet, where are all the Elite TEs on the roster? Why was an “elite recruiter” not able to capitalize on his player, that he coached, being the highest drafted ever at that position? Brewster not being able to capitalize on Pitts insane year is a travesty. Absolute failure

I Wish we would have retained him, and he did have another decent TE committed to us but he left our class after we let Brewster go. Forgot his name. Yeah, Brewster should have been able to capitalize on Pitts' last year here. Instead UGA got all the tightends. Money talks... and we were left empty handed.

I feel if was that good of a coach or recruiter he would've been employed before now.
My opinion about him being a great recruiter is he mostly was being compared to his fellow coaches.

He was here 2 years , brought in for his recruiting acumen but simply didn't move the needle in that regard, he's in his mid 60s so that day may have passed. As for coaching, I think I could have looked good with Pitts and Trask throwing to him.

And then he whiffs on the best TEs. but age might have something to do with his lack of recruiting, but he was a decent good enough position coach. We'll see how he does at Colorado.

Not only did he not capitalize on Pitts 2020 season, hell even his 2019 season, but he was NOT effective in the Carolina's which iirc was his recruiting region. Only brought in Yousef and he's already in the portal
