    Taking a step back…
This class would be fantastic (look at avg 92.xx) if we add a similarly rated OT, TE, and LB.
We will likely only add two of these three positions of need at a lower rating. So class will be “very good” vs “fantastic”.

These misses will need to be filled via portal in a future year. Not ideal but not really uncommon either.

Otherwise we’re just upset about an elite OT that no one thought we were in on until a few weeks ago. And upset about a decent RB who wouldnt have touched the ball here for a couple years and split carries with a very good committed player.

It is called optics and perception.
Despite having a horrid season (Miami) they are getting players that likely will improve their team.
Not a guarantee but much more likely than not. Creates steam at least until there is a flameout.
Our head to head recruiting loses to MIA specifically, despite them paying more, simply shows that our UAA is not vested in winning (from a perception stand point) at the highest level.

Did our last tight ends coach make Xander's a pass catching Tight end? not sure anybody could have. And outside of Kyle Pitt's our tight end game has not been great.

Don't disagree. The game has changed in many ways and I guess I'm set in my ways. I just know recruiting has always been filthy and while things have evolved exponentially, I can't help but feel like significance of these optics are only magnified because we are so connected every step of the way through social media right now. I've said it before and I've reneged on it but I am going to walk away from all of this for a while and check in down the road because the day to day stuff has become too much for me. I'm not talking specifically about our fan base but the all or nothing swings by all involved, fans, recruits, recruiting services, media platforms, etc

I'm also a bit worn out by all of the narcissistic overly produced pictures and videos of recruits and their visits, press conferences, flip announcements, portal announcements etc. So much of this was out of sight out of mind before and I hated it then but in hindsight it was better that way.

Hope I can look at the spring and see some positive and tangible results at that time.

    I’m not buying that.

EVERYONE is still trying to figure out the whole NIL dynamic but only a few are willing to spend without any sort of budget or parameters. And as far as our program is concerned and the expanding infrastructure, we just started. I’m not saying there isn’t a reason to be concerned how season 1 went but many just need to be more realistic. The current Bama, UGA and OSU machines were not built over night and many of the things we are trying to build now were already in place at those schools when they went out and got their guy.

we also gotta remember too along with building something substantial, you GOTTA hit at QB. Hit there with great to elite QB play and it’s easier to recruit. Clemson looked like a whole different team when they played Klubnick over DJ. The hope is Rashada or/and Lagway can lift the players up around them with their performance. Think about how dynamic the O looked this year when AR was accurate

Allow me to echo your sentiments, as I could not possibly agree more. I would add that I won't miss the summer soldiers and the outright trolls who have come out of the woodwork here recently, either. I'll probably check in occasionally due to the "moth to a flame" thing. But I'm also taking a break from serious posting 'til the Spring, when there will hopefully be something more edifying going on discussion-wise. Ciao for now.

The only thing I disagree with is the "taking time" to figure it out regarding Bama, uga, Ohio state. I think there was an immediate uptick in recruiting and I don't buy the argument they were just great recruiters. Saban started the no holds barred method holistically speaking in getting boosters and the university to literally buy into throwing everything into football. He called the NCAAs bluff and won. I think smart brought that to Georgia and yes, I think urban brought it to OSU and handed the torch to Day.

I don't mean to imply illegal recruiting wasn't happening before all of that but I do think it ramped up when it was realized the NCAA had no power to do anything.

There’s either a bunch of trolls on here right now or some of y’all are being whining babies.. transfer portal is still going on and recruiting class has improved this year. Let it all play out more and see where things end up..just because things didn’t go “best case scenario” doesn’t mean things are not improving.

Seems like this happens every few months on here and then billy signs a couple recruits and everyone pretends like they weren’t just complaining.

Valid point. But still think the 2 situations are closer to apples & oranges than apples to apples. What BN is getting now in recruiting resources is exactly what the other big 3 were getting years ago. The difference is that virtually no one else was investing in those resources at the time, allowing those schools to take an enormous jump. And they had a more stable and talented roster as well. Now, others have built their recruiting apparatus based on those blueprints. Then you throw in the wild wild west world of NIL it’s a more difficult situation.

Not really. UF will package lofty goals in hiring press conferences, but it's not selling its soul for a shot at a football dynasty. Just like every other UF sport, the expectation will be to be very competitive and have a regular shot at SEC titles. It's a very academic focused institution at this point and isn't going to chase football to the degree some of the other schools do, or perhaps it somewhat did in the past.

Don't get me wrong, the current product is unacceptable to both fans and UF admin I'm sure, but if Napier gets UF to be a regular participant in a 16 team playoff he'll have done his job from the UF admin perspective. Unfortunately we are a long way from that right now, but admin isn't going to look at a recruiting class ranked 10-12 as a sign of failure by Napier.

I really don't mind being the squirrel who occasionally finds a nut. What I don't like is having a losing record. It's really not that hard for UF to go over 0.500, especially if they play 2 or 3 rent wins a year.

Not saying they can't build something very impressive, but it will take a bit of luck and Napier being 'that guy'. UF institutionally isn't going to jump into the unsavory gray areas and make football priority #1. They haven't done that in nearly 50 years and have made it clear they are going to handle things the the most above board way over and over and over again.
