Hate it all you want, but it’s not “they” who destroyed it. “They” were trying to keep the old system you liked in place for as long as they could until the legal systems got involved.

It’s human nature to want the most for your services. If you could make more money doing the exact thing you’re doing right now, don’t you want the ability and platform to do so? You may not take advantage of it for yourself, but why would you root against the ability to do so for everyone?

To me, it’s bigger than enjoying the “purity” of a sport we grew up watching. It’s about basic human rights.

Most are just giving their opinions on the matter. I may be wrong, but I don’t see many on here going back and forth with Ruiz.

I guess you’re saying if we had the schlong, we’d slang it too. To that, I’d say some would (I’m sure), but that don’t mean it’s a good thing. Lol

Before “tampering” was limited to a few teams that disregarded the rules. Now it’s available to everyone. Whatever rules are set up, how do you prevent a third party company from contacting a player’s representative on the possibility of that player transferring to another school? You can’t without breaking the law.

Well, we need to compete. We have the guy that wrote the rules running our collective and Ruiz is saying it’s illegal. I’m not an attorney, but I guess the guy that wrote the rules may have more influence politically to go after Ruiz. Anyone in the know care to chime in?

Poor article based on a garbage premise. Basically, it’s saying that the portal is the reason why this HS RB isn’t getting looks because teams’ rosters are always changing because of the portal. If the kid has the talent, measurables and off the field situation / schoolwork situation in order, he’d get offers.

I’m open to hearing about how he’s getting lesser options because teams have the ability to pick a proven player out of the portal than to develop a HS player…but that has always been the case.

Optimistic, sure, but maybe NIL will be a positive on this front.

Thats true, but there are tampering rules to prevent this kind of thing in the professional leagues. When it comes to the world of competitive sports, you get fined draft picks or in other ways for tampering with players or coaches that are under contract.

Well let’s see how they do in court to prove tampering. You can’t stop an unaffiliated third party company from contacting a player’s representative as far as I can tell.

I think we agree, just saying it in different ways. The rules are, there are no rules. Professional leagues have taken steps to prevent and discourage tampering. We all know the NCAA will never be able to step in and enforce something similar. I don't see how any of this changes anytime soon.

What do you suggest the NCAA do?

The NCAA is pretty much powerless to enforce anything on anyone who isn't willing to recognize its rapidly dissipating "authority." TBH, the concept of amateurism as it pertains to CFB has been a joke (at least for some) for several decades anyway. And the NCAA has no one to blame but itself for the grabasstic free-for-all that has ensued as a result of their refusal to govern in a manner that protected and promoted the player's legitimate rights to share in the wealth in a structured and legally defensible manner. Additionally, the abject refusal on the part of the powers that be to enforce the preexisting "rules" against buying players, in an even-handed and consistent way, served to undermine the whole rotten system - by creating a brahman class that could get away with murder, while others were being pilloried for jaywalking. Talk about a recipe for disaster...

It’s just like mlb. No cap and only a handful of teams really matter. Once in a while, a Cinderella team gets a swing at it but free unlimited cash in free agency dismantles the team quickly. Without a payroll and a salary cap, it’ll be exactly like mlb. You can’t cap nil, but you can establish a salary cap and have contracts. I don’t think colleges are interested in paying players or evening the playing field, much like mlb, they like it just how it is. Big boys get what they want.
