It is a sad scenario. Mullen was and is truly an offensive genius. The guy could scheme a game plan to hide our shortcomings and put the other team on its heels but a head coach...thats a big no. I think if Mullen had brought in a few head hunter recruiters and for GOD SAKES FIRED GRANTHAM and our o line coaches he would have covered his own shortcomings and likely been able to put us in the final 4 but alas Mullen was a stubborn bull headed guy who refused to change out his lesser pieces to get better.

He decided to never rise to the expectations and requirements of a top tier job. Thankfully the eject lever was pulled quickly rather than the slow, toxic, atrophy.

Honestly it appeared like he pulled the lever himself mid season and we only finished it at seasons end.

He is one of the best offensive coordinators in the country and has been for years and years. But that’s where he should have stayed. He’s not about the rest of the details of running an entire program. He is not a CEO type. Of course he is rich now and enjoying life I’m sure, but his legacy would have been better if he would have just stayed happy being the best OC in the business.

Yeah, the guy definitely seemed to be over the experience and looking for the door after the UK loss. Tough for Strick to fire him until the complete collapse in that Oct/Nov stretch though.

Isn't it nice we don't have to wait for recruiting season anymore?

I was thinking this the other day; how refreshing that we have a staff that goes into the season ALREADY making major inroads with the NEXT recruiting class. We seem to now just be waiting on the big fish to pop but can turn attention to the 2024 class. This is soooooooo much fun now

Sorry, but it’ll take a while before I have any interest in ANYTHING Mull has an opinion on.

I think Kentucky was the symptom of him already being at that point. Never seen a coach so checked out during that game.

And that's THEE thing that upset me about Mullen during his last two years at UF. You KNOW how tough this job is and how much is expected from you. He spent 4 years here working under one of college football greatest coaches and got first hand experience about what is expected at UF and just completely turned his nose up at it following the Bama loss in 2020.

Yeah. Some here are gonna gripe about beating a dead horse but that's exactly how I feel about it too. Handed the keys to the program. Told everyone what he knew we wanted to hear. Talked a big game about "relentless effort" and "maximum strain" and then let the program fall apart. Infuriating.

So let me get this straight. Last year Mullen let a “Heisman Sleeper” sit the bench all year?!?!
