They played a weak Florida and a weak Miami and did not play for the NC.




Are you stating that had they beaten an 11-1 Florida program and a 10-2 Miami program that it would not have helped them in their final rankings? I hope not!




Are you saying that beating two top 15 teams in state would not have given them an edge over Georgia for 5 star talent in Florida? Is that your argument?

My point was not that every year that one program was good the other had to be good for them to be good.


My comments were that the big three can’t be the big three if only one is winning. And for us, as. I h ave clearly demonstrated in previous posts, not only was FSU was viable but they were recruiting well.


If we continue to play a down FSU it will hurt our rankings and players who would have gone to FSU might end up at LSU, Georgia et al. So the LSUs clean up in Louisiana and then get icing on the cake by pilfering 5 stars for Florida.


Inasmuch as your initial comments had absolutely NO MERIT, I did not punish myself by reading any more of your drivel.

 

Their great recruiting produced 8-3 average over 12 years. They began to stockpile talent as a result of our probation status and that influx propelled them forward coupled with playing in the weakest of the major conferences at the time.

So they played UF and Miami? UF played FSU and Miami(until 87) every year AND an SEC schedule.....but FSU playing Tulane, Memphis, Va Tech was "typicaly the toughest schedule in the nation"? Laughable.
Just an FYI, for Bowdens first 5 years at FSU both UF and Miami had overall losing records....so how exactly did that catapult FSU's strength of schedule? Guess it was those Southern Miss and East Carolina matchups.
Look, you made a nonsensical statement about their schedule strength. Anyone with half a brain can look at their schedules and know it wasn't anything remotely close to that. You should have read further, but I understand your hesitancy. It is absolutely possible that beating a 11-1 UF team and a 10-2 Miami team would have helped them finish higher in the final rankings (they lost to Oklahoma in their bowl game… but they would have finished no better than 4th instead of 6th), Alabama was number 1 at 12-0, FSU was never higher than 4th, but it wasn’t because Miami and UF were down , it was because teams with firmly established reputations started the the season ahead of them and stayed there.
If you had read further you would have found I never diminished FSU’s accomplishments nor Bobby Bowden’s reputation, I happen to agree Bowden was a top 5 all time coach.
I do disagree about recruiting. NIL has changed recruiting forever, Georgia and Alabama are going to continue to come in to Florida and grab top players… so will others, but UF, Miami, and FSU can still get their share if they are willing, and able, to compete in the new environment. What I don’t believe, however is that the state of Florida will ever be dominated recruiting wise by what you refer to as the Big Three.
I just disagree with your premise, you see events of pre NIL success as definitive proof, I don’t.
By all means continue to disparage other opinions as drivel even after you admit you didn’t read the whole thing. Drag it down to a personal level if that’s your desire. I’m not going that route.
