For the record, I'm not really criticizing Napier and the staff, I just feel their hands are being tied from people above them. Since Urban left, there's no other excuse for three completely different coaching staffs going down in flames and this one starting off poorly on the thing they were hired to change (recruiting). Administration, however, deserves the criticism. Why? They're the common denomonator among all the prior staffs.

I'm coming off as overly negative because it feels like deja vu to me. We've seen this play out three times prior. A new coach comes in and re-ignites the fanbase by promising whatever and next thing you know, they're out 3-4 years later and we go through it all over again. Meanwhile the people in charge of hiring these coaches keep their jobs.

I feel like it's fair for fans to know what exactly the expectations of this program are from the administration. Do they want to actually compete for championships or are they okay with settling into a 7-8 win program? I want honesty, that's all. It's not like I'm going to stop going to games or rooting for the team if it's the latter. Just tell us what the deal is.

I'll just say I disagree with that one.

Stricklin stood there at the presser the day he fired Mullen and said, among other things, that fans' expectations were not too high at Florida. If he thought that were the truth, why is the university having the coach writing open letters to the fanbase ~7 months into his tenure?

Either we hired the wrong guy (which is impossible to know this early) or there is something else holding us back from meeting those expectations that we're told aren't ridiculous. If it's the latter, I think it's fair for that to be brought to our attention, no? Especially to those people who have donated money towards the Collective?

 

What are your expectations?

 

I have my moments where emotions get the better of me. I am very passionate about my Gators, as most are and watching the sport devolve before our eyes is disheartening. Hopefully, despite the inept NCAA, greedy cash cow parents and fans, both confused and belligerent, we can find some equilibrium with the state of things.

Ultimately, I blame the NCAA. As the less than scrupulous entities involved can only thrive in an enviroment that they create.

Im saddened, yet hopeful. Excited, yet anxious for the season. Mostly, I am pissed that things have been allowed to transpire, or not, to allow an institution of our magnitude to regress over the last decade or so.

I thank everyone who contributes civil and thoughtful discourse here as we navigate these tumultuous times.

One thing I remember most from the military is that no matter how bad the situation seems, as long as you have your team, you're good to go.

We may lose a battle but this war is far from over.

To compete for SEC championships and national championships.

Maybe my diss towards other fans being stuck in the Spurrier era is coming back to bite me in the ass and I'm stuck in the Meyer era.

 

If those are your expectations, Napier is not failing yet.

 

You need to recruit at a very high level to compete for those things. Also, again, I'm not really blaming Napier for recent events.

 

It’s way too early to tell anything at this point. I believe Stricklin was speaking from the heart.

I am inclined to believe that Napier is just a little different from any coach we’ve had. He seems dedicated to doing things a certain way that’s more build from the ground up than trying to create an early flash. I think this is reflected in how he recruits and I have no reason to think Napes and SS aren’t aligned. Napier has told us this is gonna take time - from the very beginning.

UF is more conservative in how it sets policy than our rival schools. Napier seems like a great fit for this environment at UF. And what I am really hoping to see this fall is a disciplined team putting out maximum effort and making us proud. That can most certainly happen without superstar talent, and we have no real idea who will emerge as leaders on the field and who will pleasantly surprise us. We have a lot of opportunity to give these recruits cause to seriously consider Florida this fall. Flip some of these ‘commits’ in The Swamp.

Have some faith fellow Gators. There is nothing right now to give us deja vu back to Muschamp, Mac, or Mullen. This man is doing it differently and it’s a sound plan for the long haul if y’all are willing to stop looking for the worst case scenario every time you experience some disappointment. Critique all you want, but give these coaches, players, and our university the benefit of the doubt. That’s what fans are supposed to do

I hope like hell your jumping the gun but I don’t know. No time to panic but everyone’s hole better be puckering or they aren’t paying attention.

 

Dude I was stuck in the Dickey era. I didn’t know if we’d ever win an SEC Championship. We’ve won 8 of those and 3 NCs since. Guess that’s why it’s easier for me to believe it’ll happen again for our Gators

 

Not for me. See how the season goes. I put it on the staff to win the games they should win, and a couple of the big games where we aren't favored.

 

I know. I just wish we knew why we seem less attractive and aren't closing deals.

I would be dismayed if Admin is in ivory tower mode while every other team is spending money outside of the rules. Does Admin think that UF is an NCAA target. Really? I tend to think we don't have the money and or CBN can't imagine paying so many players more than his coaches make. I just wish we knew the real reason things have stalled. Too many Florida players goin g to other schools. Texas should NOT get our RB.

Me too..went thru that horrible probation time, stripped of our SEC title as well

He wants to win before the season even starts... Or he wants to illegally buy (pay-to-play) players like A&M did and get everyone.
