Actually I live about one mile from the old homestead in Lithia. I did almost 25 years with Tampa Fire Rescue so Tampa was sort of a second home every 3rd day.
I moved to Gainesville in 1995 and worked at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala until home called in 2003. CDgator who used to post here is a good friend. (Well, I know him anyway)… just kidding Doug.

I have seats in the north end zone, I still make the majority of the games, although the noon games are getting tougher.

results on the field are not a big deal at all to early years in a new coaches recruiting success. It’s been proven over and over. Mullen at UF went to 3 straight NY6, won the East, won double digit games three straight years yet never parlayed that into recruiting success. Kirby went 7-5 and lost to Vandy in his first and had a top 3 class. The first season record for a coach is typically irrelevant in recruiting. Easy to sell recruits that the coach needs his own players in to change the winning culture and get their stuff installed with players recruited to their system.

Counting on the team to win over recruits with its on-field performance is a pretty risky bet. I'm actually comparatively optimistic about our chances this coming year, but there's a very real chance we end up 6-6 or 7-5, which isn't going to impress anyone. If the theory of the case is that we just need to show out on the field and high-level recruits will shower down on us like soft spring rains, what happens if we go 7-5 with the 67th-best offense in the NCAA?

exactly and let’s admit this; we have a head coach that these kids aren’t familiar with. This isn’t like CBN is coming from Boise State which is the most known G5 school or like it was when Urban was at Utah and got to showcase himself when they got into the BCS game before he came to UF.

ULL was never on any of these kids radar so they kinda don’t know shyt about what a CBN led team can do against the big boys. And as far as the staff, these kids are probably only really familiar with Colbert and Raymond yet everyone else are kind of unknowns (i guess you can add Coach Spencer).

Sadly this probably is going to be a “yea all this is nice, but you CBN REALLY are going to have to show me what you can do on a P5 level since you’re only HC experience was at a G5 school”

The question I find myself asking these days is which school these athletes really end up being a factor at. It is becoming a bit less about where they signed out of HS with the portal. Granted, it will always be better to evaluate and sign out of HS (particularly along the lines, IMO), but not quite the sky is falling scenario as it was.

Kids may not be impressed with what our kids are getting or others are just upping the ante.

Let’s meet up some time. I usually fish 2-3 times a month. My kids go a lot but we end up a guy short here and there.

No doubt the FL legal backdrop is a factor given the compliance first philosophy at UF. Hopefully they are actively lobbying the pols in Tally, or they are going to have to readjust either the goals for the program or hope the conferences come up with some guidelines to level things. It looks like they are going to err on the side of caution until then, which is fairly on brand for the UF institutional culture.

This should impact all schools in Florida yet Miami isn’t following it. No one should.

Yeah, I imagine all programs are figuring out how to keep a portal exodus.

The program is (smartly) building from within, though it's probably a byproduct of circumstances with how funds can be used as opposed to recruiting Plan A.
