If it ultimately comes down to NIL with Baxter, I don’t like our chances against desperate programs like Texas, A&M, and Miami.

And if we get Webb, I’d it really worth it. Get the trenches.

Glad I didn't log into the site at 3:00 to check on nothing. Might have missed one or two runs. Was 10 rows back from the first baseline watching the Cubs hammer the Pirates 21-0. I'm thinking Baxter is actually down to two schools but he's gonna play the five official visits game and break in all five of those hats before he puts them on a table.

Miami has alumni with deep pockets. Families were already wealthy to afford $50 to $60,000 per year in attendance.

Miami just gave the top basketball portal transfer kid $400,000 per year for two year NIL. Lot of programs can’t steer $800,000 to a kid for two years of college basketball.

Hardly anyone is paying that much for tuition anywhere. Sticker price for my daughter's tuition at BU was nearly $70k. We spent a little over $30k. UM is very similar and draws from the same application pool. Nearly half their students are receiving need-based aid.

So nice of Jack to do that. What a great great player, at any and every level.

    Hi Wanne -
I tend to agree but the story itself and the current road to perdition of College (Major Sports) would make a helleva book or podcast.

I would be interested in how the NCAA was slowly but surely rendered an ineffectual entity.

What individuals and what institutions led the charge to change and by change I mean could not follow the rules, cheated and then did what it took to "buy-off" probation or the death penalty and then ultimately convinced the powers at be that a handful of 5 star basketball and football players were worth corrupting and destroying the amatuer system.

The SEC is RICH in scoundrels and cheaters in this regard.

Auburn I suspect would be the SEC standard bearer followed closely by Bama.

    LSU
    Miss State
    of course KY in Basketball

Certainly Charlie Pell went at it early for UF but the Gators were stung by the NCAA when it still had teeth.

Newcomer Texas AM and soon to be members Texas and Oklahoma are certainly standard bearers in the corruption department.

Have no doubt that FSU, under Bowden, was slippin checks to a whole slew of kids, and for decades. I wonder how much D Sanders recieved.

So the NCAA went the way of the US political system, rule breakers with money and power, ultimately got what they wanted, immunity from rules or laws. Rules and laws only apply to the "little guys".

What I find most sickning from all this, is something you and I seem to agree on, the CONSOLIDATION of Power 5 football.

How many programs will slip under the water and drown due to the financial burdens, physical infrastruture madness, NIL bribery, Recruiting Insanity, and so forth.

Perhaps some of those programs can survive by dipping into lower classifications, however that would be a blow to reputation and prestige.

How far will consolidation go? I would not be surprised at all to see just two leages still standing in 10 years in terms of what we call "Power - 5" / competing for the big tamale of a a 'Crystal Trophy".

I also see two power vacums sucking in two different directions as well.

The "IMG's" will become the new standard of H.S. Football across the nation. Again, further consolidation of football talent, with a small % of High Schools, approved by state legislatures, to be the farm system for the big Colleges in this new world order.

The colleges will pay for families to either move into the appropriate districts or provide waivers and transportation for the "non-student" athlete. Hell, I can even see 'dorms" bein built for that purpose at these H.S. "super football" schools.

And in the other direction I have no doubt that the NFL will somehow "co-brand" with the Colleges that survive, in order to make sure they are part of the "Money-Machine" process of College Football as well.

    Think "Jag-Gators"

    It is what it is.
