Great point, can a big school get a kid despite a lower NIL deal simply because their exposure and opportunity is better? Probably. But that Jackson St deal also shows some kids will follow the money regardless of school.

 

True, those guys/gals are actually generating money for whoever is paying their nil. Most football will be strictly pay to play.

 

I’d take the money too if it’s 3-4 times more. 750k vs a mil though, I’d take the good football program if I thought I had a shot at Sundays or the better academics if I was a high iq guy.

 

I think it’s a fallacy to suggest we don’t have the financial resources to compete with a school like Alabama be it NIL or otherwise. The reason they jumped ahead of us was they were more ‘creative’ with recruiting players the last 10 years or so.

 

We have plenty of boosters with money. Their willingness to use it on payroll is not certain. Many of us on gc say they won’t pay a dime. It just depends on each individual’s mindset. We will see.

Wanne kind of touches on it below. Bama boosters tend to display more passion, often with their wallet. UF has some great boosters as well, but I'm afraid we have a lot that do a lot of talking and not a lot of acting. We will certainly see as things move forward.

I've spent a lot of time in Alabama, and I get the passion for college football. There are no high-level pro sports there, so there's not much else to get passionate about. But, what I have never understood is where the Alabama booster / bagman money comes from; you just don't see a whole lot of obvious sources for that when you look around in those parts.

Tennessee boosters continue to open up the checkbooks while we fall further behind…why are our boosters so lazy?

 

With all this early spending, they have to be approaching the salary cap, don't they?

In state kid. Would've been surprised if he didn't pick UT. They are basically the only show in town of any relevance, not many "house divided" types in Tenn, it's overwhelmingly VOL country. Just Like UGA and LSU. Smh. At least Bama has Auburn to contend with for in state talent, Clemson has USC, we have UM AND FSU, it's becoming clear that schools that are generally do great in recruiting reside in states that basically belong to them. Ohio St., LSU, UGA, Tennessee, Penn st., Oregon, basically clean up their state/territory and then try to poach a couple out-of state blue chippers. Obviously we need to put our foot to the neck of FSU and UM and take our top in state talent and then poach the rest.

 

Tennessee signed 2 of the top 30 kids from their state last year (none of the top 14). One of those two just happened to be Elijah Herring, Caleb’s brother. So other than the Herring family, they haven’t exactly locked down their state.
