My roommate the last 2 years was a Finance major. When we’d talk about our classes it was interesting to me - so I decided to take FI-326 as one of my two “non-technical electives” toward my engineering degree. Accounting was a pre-req and I didn’t take that but I figured I could handle it because hey, I’m an engineer and I can add and subtract…..
I petitioned to the Business college to let me take the Finance class without the Accounting pre-req and they allowed it……

……it kicked my ass! When we started out it was like they were speaking a different language. Worked my ass off to 3-point that class. My roommate thought it was hilarious.

I’m with you, both of those classes were brutal. After all that I decided I needed to go to law school so I didn’t have to be an accountant.

The academic path is simple and there. If he can code decently then he has all kinds of options from engineering to data analytics.

Honestly, anybody that is fluent in math will be able to have a great career in any number of fields (finance, advanced design, insurance, even sales and marketing). Understanding data, analysis, probabilities, etc. will set your kid up for the future.

McCullough was my advisor, cool guy, never had him for a class tho. I thought cost atg was by far the easiest and most interesting atg course i took. Also very useful career wise.

Lot of #s guys on this thread. I took calc at UF with a Korean dude, never understood anything nor went to class much nor ever used any of it. Memorized enough to get a 50 something on the final. Thanks to my friend "the curve" that was good enough for a B.
